The grand float parade in the heart of the Piana Rotaliana
The Mezzocorona Children's Carnival is one of the most cherished and well-attended events on the winter calendar of the Piana Rotaliana, in the municipality of Mezzocorona, in the province of Trento (Trentino-Alto Adige). Every year, the grand parade of allegorical floats transforms the town center into a river of color, music, and masks, drawing thousands of spectators from across the Adige Valley.
At the heart of the event are the local youth, who spend months of hard work and passion building their floats. Alongside them, groups from other towns in the Rotaliana and Val di Non valleys participate in a procession that unites different generations and communities. A historic protagonist is the "5 più 5" group, present since 1974, which traditionally leads the parade.
The procession winds along Via IV Novembre ("the straight"), Piazza San Gottardo, Via San Giovanni Bosco, and Piazza della Chiesa, crossing the historic center of Mezzocorona. The allegorical floats, often several meters high and animated by costumed performers, cover a wide range of themes: from historical references to satire, and from fantasy worlds to current events.
The Mezzocorona event is part of the broader Rotaliana Königsberg Carnival, which spans several days and involves various towns in the Piana Rotaliana with parades, masked parties, and themed activities. The Children's Carnival represents one of the highlights, turning Mezzocorona into the meeting point for the entire Rotaliana community.
Behind the festival lies a massive volunteer effort: the event is organized by the Mezzocorona Eventi association, with the involvement of dozens of volunteers and local groups. This commitment ensures a safe and free day of fun for families, children, and Carnival enthusiasts every year.
The Mezzocorona Children's Carnival 2026 took place on Sunday, February 15, with the parade starting at 1:30 PM. It was a record-breaking edition, organized for the second consecutive year by the Mezzocorona Eventi association, chaired by Fabio Martinelli.
The parade featured 24 allegorical floats — 11 of which were built by the youth of Mezzocorona and 13 from the Piana Rotaliana and Val di Non valleys — and 6 themed masked groups. The procession, which lasted over two hours, passed through Via IV Novembre, Piazza San Gottardo, Via San Giovanni Bosco, and Piazza della Chiesa, attracting several thousand spectators.
Thanks to the work of over 40 volunteers, the festivities continued until 10:00 PM under the Firefighters' marquee, with nearly 2,000 meals served and the famous Nutella Party hosted by the "il Melograno" association. The event was held safely and with free admission as part of the Rotaliana Königsberg Carnival.
Mezzocorona is located along the Adige Valley, about 20 km north of Trento. By car, it can be reached via the A22 Brenner motorway (exit San Michele all'Adige/Mezzocorona). By train, the Mezzocorona station is served by the Brenner line and the Trento-Malè railway (Trento-Malè-Mezzana line).
Free admission. The parade takes place in the early afternoon (usually from 1:30 PM) along the town streets. Afterwards, a party and food stalls are available under the Firefighters' marquee.
We recommend arriving early to find parking and a good spot along the route. The event is suitable for families and children.
