Messina's premier comic book and pop culture festival
MessinaCon is the major comic book and pop culture festival in the city of Messina, Sicily, which transforms the Villa Dante park into a vibrant village dedicated to the nerd world every year. Spanning over 50,000 square meters, the event is now one of the largest comic conventions in Southern Italy, drawing enthusiasts from across the region and the nearby Calabria, just across the Strait.
Starting as a small gathering for fans, MessinaCon has grown year after year to become the go-to event for the Messina nerd community. It is organized by the StrettoCrea collective, with the support of the Municipality of Messina and the special agency Messina Social City. The festival blends entertainment, culture, and social engagement, with a strong focus on accessibility and family-friendly activities.
The MessinaCon program covers every facet of contemporary pop culture:
The MessinaCon season traditionally kicks off with Day Zero, a preview event that brings the community together and unveils the first news for the September edition. Hosted at the Giardino Corallo, it builds anticipation for the three-day main event at Villa Dante.
Amidst the buildings and parks of the city on the Strait, MessinaCon is one of the most popular cultural and entertainment events of the Messina summer. For those visiting Messina and Sicily in early September, it is the perfect opportunity to immerse yourself in pop culture within the lush, accessible setting of Villa Dante.
The 2026 edition of MessinaCon, the eleventh, is confirmed at Villa Dante for Friday, September 4th, Saturday 5th, and Sunday 6th. The park in Messina will once again host one of the largest pop culture festivals in Southern Italy, featuring comics, games, cosplay, music, meet-and-greets with authors, exhibitions, tournaments, and shows designed for the whole family.
The main novelty of the 2026 edition is the introduction, for the first time at a comic festival in Messina, of a K-Pop contest alongside the historic cosplay contest. The season was opened by the MessinaCon Day Zero, the preview event hosted at the Giardino Corallo.
The full program with guests, authors, voice actors, and activities will be communicated by the StrettoCrea organization in the weeks preceding the event.
MessinaCon is held at Villa Dante, Via del Fante 88, Messina (Zip Code 98168). The park is just minutes from the city center and is easily accessible by car and public transport.
By train: Messina Centrale station, then continue by city bus or taxi. By car: A20 motorway exits (Messina-Palermo) and connections with the A18. By ship/ferry: Messina is connected to Calabria by ferries and hydrofoils crossing the Strait.
Admission requires a ticket, which can be purchased online (PostoRiservato.it) or on-site. Free entry is provided for people with disabilities and their companions (1 free + 1 paying) and for children under 14.
The event takes place in early September when the weather is still warm: we recommend light clothing, staying hydrated, and using sunscreen if you plan to stay at the festival during the hottest hours.
