About Mazzin Festival

The Mazzin Village Festival is a summer tradition that brings together the hamlets of Campestrin and Fontanazzo around the small church of Saint Mary Magdalene, the community's patron saint. This July Sunday is dedicated to Ladin traditions, featuring Holy Mass in the village and a concert by the local band in the square. It is a simple, authentic moment at the foot of the Dolomites, where faith, music, and conviviality intertwine in the northernmost municipality of the Val di Fassa, in the province of Trento.

A festival in the Dolomites of Val di Fassa

The Mazzin Village Festival is one of the most intimate and authentic celebrations in the Val di Fassa, in the province of Trento. It takes place in the Municipality of Mazzin, the smallest and northernmost town in the Ladin valley, which unites the hamlets of Mazzin, Campestrin, and Fontanazzo, home to about five hundred residents. The festival centers around the small church of Saint Mary Magdalene, located in the hamlet of Campestrin, and celebrates the community's patron saint.

The Church of Saint Mary Magdalene

Built in 1573, the Church of Saint Mary Magdalene the Penitent is a small jewel of sacred mountain architecture, featuring a single-nave structure, a Gothic apse, and a Baroque altar. The patronal feast day falls on July 22nd, and the community organizes its summer festival around this date, keeping alive a tradition rooted in the religious and popular history of the village.

The day's program

The festival opens with the celebration of Holy Mass in the village church dedicated to Saint Mary Magdalene. Following the service, the festivities continue with the traditional band concert in the square in front of the building, where participants gather for a moment of music and conviviality. It is a simple occasion, free of grand displays, that preserves the genuine spirit of mountain village festivals.

Mazzin, the village of the 'pitores'

Mazzin is known as the "village of the pitores", a reference to the painters and decorators who once migrated seasonally in search of houses to paint. The village is situated at one of the narrowest points of the Val di Fassa, surrounded by the Dolomite landscapes of the Catinaccio and Marmolada groups. A charming illuminated path connects Mazzin to the hamlet of Fontanazzo, offering evening walks immersed in the alpine nature.

An event of Ladin culture

Organized by the Antermoia Cultural Association, the Mazzin Village Festival represents a key part of the rich calendar of festivals and fairs in the Val di Fassa, the heart of Ladin culture in Trentino-Alto Adige. Visitors discover not only a religious and musical event but also the hospitality and traditions of a small mountain community that proudly guards its identity.
