About Matusa Arena Sport

For four days, the Parco Matusa in Frosinone transforms into the province's largest outdoor sports village. Featuring open tournaments, local club demonstrations, dance schools, gyms, martial arts, and a 9.90 km road race, Matusa Arena Sport brings youth sports into the former stadium turned city park. Free admission, food area, and a different theme each day, from afternoon until midnight.

Sport returns to the former stadium

Matusa Arena Sport is a four-day sports event that brings the Parco Matusa in Frosinone to life. Located in the heart of the Ciociaria region in southern Lazio, the park stands where the city's football matches were played for decades: the old Matusa stadium, the historic home of Frosinone Calcio, has been converted into a large public green space, and that is exactly where the event hosts tournaments, exhibitions, and activities open to everyone.

A grassroots initiative

The unique aspect of Matusa Arena Sport is its origin: the idea didn't come from a municipal office but from a group of local youths, gathered around the Revolution Sports association, who decided to build a space for sport and social gathering for teenagers, families, and enthusiasts with their own hands. The stated goal is to promote healthy lifestyles and give back to young people one of the city's symbolic landmarks, in a provincial capital where outdoor gathering spaces are a precious commodity during the summer.

Tournaments for everyone

The heart of the event is the tournament program, open to both competitive athletes and beginners. Matches are played on fields set up in the park, with fast-paced formats and open registration.

  • Football-tennis, in pairs or teams
  • Basketball in open, amateur, pro, and 1-on-1 formats
  • 3-point shooting contest
  • Volleyball
  • Table tennis and foosball

Showcasing local associations

Alongside the tournaments, dozens of sports associations from the Frosinone province offer demonstrations and free trial sessions: dance, pole dance, aerial dance, calisthenics, horse riding, pilates, martial arts, archery, precision shooting, cycling, Muay Thai, and many other disciplines. Each day has a different theme, allowing space for different sporting worlds without overlap.

The 9.90 km race

The most anticipated event is the 9.90 km road race that kicks off the final day: morning start, city route, and finish inside the park, in a format designed for both registered athletes and casual walkers. It is the moment when the event steps outside the boundaries of the Matusa and involves the streets of the city.

Food area and atmosphere

Throughout the event, a food area with refreshment points is active, turning the evenings into a meeting place even for those not competing. The park remains open until midnight: after the finals, people enjoy staying among the stands converted into lawns, amidst background music and conversation. It is the model of the Arena Matusa Festival, the summer calendar that the Municipality of Frosinone dedicates to the park from June to September, of which Matusa Arena Sport is one of the most popular events.

Why visit

Those visiting Ciociaria in June will find a free, informal, and deeply local event here, far from the typical tourist traps: a direct way to understand how a provincial capital in lower Lazio lives during the summer. Frosinone is well-suited for a two-day stop, between the historic upper town reachable by the panoramic elevator and the abbeys of Casamari and Montecassino a short drive away.

Matusa Arena Sport — edition 2026

From June 25 to 28, 2026, the Parco Matusa in Frosinone became an open-air sports village: four days of tournaments open to everyone, demonstrations by dozens of local sports associations, a different theme each evening, and the 9.90 km road race on Sunday morning. Free admission and food area active throughout the event.

The 2026 edition

Four days, from Thursday to Sunday, brought sport back into the former stadium of Frosinone. The program alternated between competitive tournaments and free trial sessions, with a thematic progression designed by the organizers of Revolution Sports: first team sports, then dance schools, and finally gyms and fitness. The free format and the refreshment area made the park an evening meeting point for families and young people of the Ciociaria capital.
