Verdicchio di Matelica celebrates in the heart of the city
The Matelica Wine Festival is the event that celebrates Verdicchio di Matelica every summer, the white wine that is a symbol of the territory and the pride of winemaking in the Marche region. It takes place in the historic center of Matelica, a municipality in the province of Macerata, and is organized by the Association of Producers of Verdicchio di Matelica with the patronage of the Municipality.
What makes this festival special is its protagonist: Verdicchio di Matelica is indeed the only Verdicchio that originates from an inland valley, the Valle Sinclinale Camerte, nestled between the Apennine ridges. It's a unique microclimate, with significant temperature fluctuations, that gives this white wine its unmistakable minerality and freshness. For this reason, it is often called the "mountain Verdicchio".
The program transforms squares, historic buildings, and alleys of the village into a journey of taste. Among the locations that provide the backdrop for the event are the Teatro Piermarini, with its foyer hosting guided tastings and in-depth sessions, and Piazza Enrico Mattei, the pulsating heart of the evening festivities with stands, street food, and music.
Beyond the glass, the festival is an opportunity to discover Matelica and its hills: every year the event attracts journalists, bloggers, and enthusiasts from all over Italy to Matelica, helping to promote one of the region's most appreciated white wines. Among the wineries involved in the event are historic producers such as Belisario, Bisci, Borgo Paglianetto, Collestefano, La Monacesca, Provima, and many other local realities.
The Matelica Wine Festival is therefore much more than just a wine festival; it is a true immersion into the culture of Marche wine, in the heart of a village that has made Verdicchio its identity.
