The summer festival of the mural village on the slopes of Monte San Vicino
Braccano in Festa is the summer event that every July draws visitors and the curious to the hamlet of Braccano, one of the best-known in the Municipality of Matelica, in the province of Macerata, in the heart of the Marche region. Nestled on the western slope of Monte San Vicino, at about 450 meters above sea level, Braccano is known throughout the region as the "village of murals": since 2001, its stone facades have become an open-air museum, thanks to about fifty works created by students from the Academies of Fine Arts of Brera, Urbino, and Macerata, and by artists from all over the world.
Promoted by the Associazione Comitato Feste Braccano, the event transforms the streets and small squares of the village into a large outdoor convivial space. The food stalls open in the evening and offer themed menus each year, accompanied by live music, karaoke, and group dances that liven up the small village until late at night.
The Comitato Feste Braccano is not limited to the summer festival: throughout the year, it organizes numerous excursions along the paths of San Vicino and Canfaito, and in autumn, the Saffron Festival. Braccano in Festa, however, represents the most anticipated moment, when the community comes together to share its rural identity and welcome those who come up from the valley to discover this authentic corner of the Marche.
Visiting Braccano during the festival means combining the gastronomic experience with the discovery of the artistic and landscape heritage of the village. The murals, lacking a single theme, leave artists free to tell stories, emotions, and local events, while the natural setting of Monte San Vicino offers an ideal backdrop for those who love walking immersed in greenery. It is a festival that well represents the spirit of the Macerata hinterland, made of popular traditions, hospitality, and love for one's territory.
The new edition of Braccano in Festa returns to the mural village of Matelica from Thursday, July 16 to Saturday, July 18, 2026. The dates are confirmed by the summer calendar of the Associazione Pro Matelica and the Associazione Comitato Feste Braccano, which is organizing the event.
As in previous editions, the festival will feature evening dining with stalls open from the evening, live music, group dancing, and markets selling typical products. The detailed program with the menus for each evening has not yet been published: it will be released by the organizers closer to the event through the Committee's official channels.
