The Romagna stage of the Tour of Italy by Sail, featuring regattas, hot air balloons, and maritime culture
The Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Tour is the grand sporting journey that accompanies Italy along its coasts every summer: a traveling regatta, but also a platform for promoting maritime culture that unites sport, institutions, and local communities. After departing from Venice, the fleet heads for Cattolica, the "Queen of the Adriatic" in the Province of Rimini, the first Romagna stage of the Tour in Emilia-Romagna.
The format of the Nastro Rosa Tour brings together the three souls of modern sailing in a single event:
Competing for the stages are ten international crews, including Olympic athletes, ocean skippers, and crews from Italian military corps — Navy, Air Force, and Financial Guard — alongside teams from Poland, Germany, and England.
The land-based heart of the event is the Sailing Village, set up on the quay of via Antonini, in the port of Cattolica. The area is open to the public free of charge and offers activities dedicated to maritime culture and the values of sailing throughout the stage: educational sessions on the history and missions of the Navy, workshops on sailing knots and introductory sailing for young people from the Italian Sailing Federation's Young Project, readings and creative workshops from the Giunti Sea Library for the little ones, as well as an official infopoint.
Among the most anticipated novelties, a large hot air balloon near the Village (Spiaggia della Lampara area) offers free tethered rides for adults and children. During the stage, the Italian Air Force Balloon Cup, the international hot air balloon competition scheduled in Piacenza, also in Emilia-Romagna, will be presented.
Including a stage of the Tour in Cattolica means enhancing one of the most vibrant seaside resorts on the Romagna Riviera: a municipality that makes its relationship with the sea its identity and which, in the height of summer, offers the opportunity to combine a seaside holiday with the spectacle of grand sailing. An event that also benefits local tourism, during a period of strong appeal along the entire Emilia-Romagna coast.
After departing from Venice, the fleet of the Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Tour reached Cattolica for the first Romagna stage of the 2026 edition. The Gulf of Cattolica transformed into a high-adrenaline arena with the three disciplines of the Tour: offshore on Figaro Bénéteau 3, inshore races on the super-fast Waszp, and wing foil just meters from the beach. The Financial Guard won the first offshore stage. Ashore, the Sailing Village on the quay of via Antonini enlivened the city with workshops, talks, and hot air balloon rides.
Throughout the stage: workshops by the Giunti Sea Library for children, Young Project by FIV (sailing knots and introductory sailing), educational sessions on the Navy, and official infopoint.
By train: Cattolica-San Giovanni-Gabicce station, a few minutes from the port. By car: A14 motorway, exit Cattolica-San Giovanni in Marignano, then follow signs for the center and port. The nearest airport is Rimini "Federico Fellini".
The Sailing Village is set up on the quay of via Antonini, in the port of Cattolica. The inshore and wing foil races are visible from the beach and the promenade.
Access to the Sailing Village and activities is free. Tethered hot air balloon rides are free but have limited spaces.
