The mountain race in Masi di Vigo, CSI provincial final
The Marco Battan Trophy is the annual summer mountain running event that transforms the small village of Masi di Vigo into a vibrant sporting arena on the last Sunday of August. Located in the Municipality of Ton, in the Val di Non, province of Trento, in the Trentino-Alto Adige region, the setting of meadows, forests, and alpine vistas provides a natural backdrop for one of the most popular races in the Trentino running calendar.
The event is organized by the USAM Baitona club and serves as the provincial final for the mountain running championship of the Italian Sports Centre (CSI) of Trento. Each edition draws over 300 athletes from all over Trentino, with more than twenty sports clubs registered and a large crowd filling the village streets.
The trophy is named after Marco Battan, a historic figure in Val di Non sports and the Trentino CSI, and a passionate manager of USAM Baitona, who passed away suddenly in September 2013. As a committee advisor and member of the CSI Presidency Council, Battan dedicated his passion, time, and hard work to athletes of all ages. The race was created as a tribute to his memory and renews his legacy every year, uniting the community of Ton through the values of sport and solidarity.
Founded in 1969 right in Masi di Vigo, USAM Baitona is one of the most deep-rooted sports clubs in Trentino. Born from an informal race organized by workers who had just finished building a mountain hut in the Portolo area, it has become a reference point for the entire community over the years, capable of training high-level athletes and involving seniors, parents, and youth. The club, which has dominated its own trophy by winning the team classification for several consecutive years, embodies the spirit of "a team that becomes a community".
The Marco Battan Trophy is much more than a competition: it is a day of celebration where the entire village of Masi di Vigo mobilizes with dozens of volunteers to welcome athletes and families. The race categories cover all ages, from the youngest to adults, with staggered starts along a route winding through the village paths and streets. Colors, smiles, effort, and joy blend in a genuine atmosphere, typical of Trentino mountain events, often attended by provincial and local authorities.
The 2026 Marco Battan Trophy will be held on Sunday, August 30, 2026, in Masi di Vigo, a village in the Municipality of Ton, in Val di Non. The date is confirmed by the official municipal events calendar, which lists the race organized by USAM Baitona. As per tradition, the event will be the provincial final for the CSI mountain running championship of Trento, featuring starts for all categories and the participation of numerous Trentino sports clubs. The detailed program, including schedules and registration fees, will be announced by the organizers in the weeks preceding the event.
The race is held in Masi di Vigo, a village in the Municipality of Ton (postal code 38010), in Val di Non, province of Trento.
