The grand street market in the historic center of Novara
The March Fair is one of the most cherished commercial events in Novara, located in the heart of the Piedmontese plains. It traditionally takes place on the first weekend of March and marks the arrival of spring for the locals. The historic center fills with stalls and crowds, creating a lively atmosphere reminiscent of the great village fairs of the past.
The main attractions are the approximately 400 street vendors arriving from all over the region. The range of goods is vast, covering virtually every category: clothing and footwear, homeware, home and garden items, jewelry, plants, and flowers, as well as food stands offering sweets and local specialties, including the iconic biscottini di Novara. You will also find the famous charismatic street hawkers who, microphone in hand, demonstrate kitchen gadgets and household products in a colorful and bustling setting.
For the 2026 edition, the layout of the stands was partially revised. In addition to the traditional locations (Allea, Viale Turati, Piazza Martiri area, Via Rosselli, and Piazza Puccini), the fair expanded towards Largo Bellini, Baluardo D'Azeglio, and Via Brera. This reconfiguration was also designed to test new areas in anticipation of the future pedestrianization of Piazza Martiri della Libertร .
Organized by the Municipality of Novara, the March Fair is a free, open-air event that attracts a vast audience, particularly families and residents from neighboring towns. Strolling among the stalls, enjoying a snack, is a spring-time ritual that combines popular shopping, social gathering, and the rediscovery of the city center. The event is part of the rich tradition of market fairs in Piedmont, of which Novara has always been one of the most active hubs.
The 2026 March Fair was held in Novara on Saturday, March 7th, and Sunday, March 8th. Alongside the traditional locations (Allea, Viale Turati, Piazza Martiri, Via Rosselli, and Piazza Puccini), the edition tested a new layout with stands also in Largo Bellini, between the Via Solaroli roundabout and Baluardo D'Azeglio up to Via Brera, in view of the future pedestrianization of Piazza Martiri.
The traditional formula was confirmed: approximately 400 stalls with clothing, homeware, garden items, jewelry, flowers, plants, and local gastronomic products. To allow the event to take place, numerous streets in the center were closed to traffic from midnight on Saturday.
Novara is easily accessible by train (Novara station, on the Turin-Milan line) and by car via the A4 and A26 motorways. During the fair, many streets in the center (Viale Turati, Viale Moroni, Via Brera, and surrounding areas) are closed to traffic; it is advisable to use external parking lots or the station area and reach the center on foot.
The fair takes place throughout the day on Saturday and Sunday of the first weekend of March. Admission is free.
Dress in layers (the weather in March is variable), keep an eye on your personal belongings in crowded areas, and plan your visit for the morning to avoid the afternoon rush.
