The Maratona delle Acque is a historic running race organized by Amatori Podistica Terni that, for decades, has combined sport with the enhancement of the local territory. The race starts from Parco della Passeggiata, in the heart of Terni, and leads participants to the spectacular setting of the Marmore Waterfall.
Two Routes for Everyone
The event offers two routes: one of 9 kilometers, which reaches Piazzale Byron near the Waterfall, and one of 21 kilometers, which takes athletes to the Belvedere Superiore and Larviano before returning. A format that welcomes both competitive runners and amateurs, in a day open to all.
Sport, Friendship, and Territory
More than just a competition, the Maratona delle Acque is a festive occasion that draws hundreds of athletes — over 450 in recent editions — and traverses some of the most beautiful landscapes of the Valnerina, in the province of Terni. The race is also an opportunity to discover the Marmore Waterfall, an extraordinary hydraulic work from Roman times and a symbol of southern Umbria.
Maratona delle Acque — edition 2026
The 48th edition of the Maratona delle Acque was held on Sunday, May 10, 2026, with a start at 9:00 AM from Parco della Passeggiata. Over 450 athletes competed on the two 9 and 21 kilometer routes, finishing inside the park.
On the 21 km, the victory went to Michele Fiorucci (Libertas Città di Castello) among men and to Francesca Piergentili (Circolo Lavoratori Terni) among women; completing the podiums were Lorenzo Felici and Nicola Lucciarini, Lorena Piastra and Sabrina Conti. On the 9 km, Tamara Trovato (AT Running) won. For the race, traffic changes were implemented on the SS Valnerina and the opening of the Marmore Waterfall was adjusted.

How to Get There
Start from Parco della Passeggiata, in the center of Terni, a city reachable by train and via the E45 and the Terni-Orte expressway. The route involves the Marmore Waterfall area; on race day, traffic changes are planned on the SS Valnerina.
