The PGI Clementine festival in the Conca d'Oro of Palagiano
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
In December, when the countryside around Palagiano is tinged with the bright orange of ripe fruit, the town center comes alive for the Mandarin and Citrus Festival of the Gulf of Taranto. It is the event that celebrates the symbolic product of this land: the PGI Clementines of the Gulf of Taranto, prized for their sweetness, unmistakable aroma, and the quality that has made Palagiano one of the Italian capitals of citrus farming.
The municipality of Palagiano, in the province of Taranto, is located in the so-called Conca d'Oro, the fertile plain of the Valle del Lato where citrus groves stretch as far as the eye can see. This agricultural vocation is at the heart of the festival, which began in the late sixties and has been revived over time with various editions, becoming the identity-defining event for the Palagiano community.
The heart of the festival lies in the food stalls and tastings: freshly squeezed juices, citrus desserts, artisanal jams and preserves, liqueurs, and numerous traditional dishes prepared with mandarins and clementines. Alongside the local producers' stands, there is space for street food and specialties of Puglian cuisine.
The Mandarin Festival is not just about food and wine: it is also a great popular festival that accompanies the approach of Christmas. The program includes artisanal and Christmas markets, live music, folk performances, children's entertainment, and activities that fill the streets and squares of the historic center. Over the years, the event has also been enriched with side events, such as sports initiatives among the citrus groves and educational activities aimed at local schools.
Strolling among the stalls with the scent of citrus in the air, tasting freshly picked clementines, and breathing in the winter atmosphere of the Valle del Lato is the best way to get to know Palagiano and its farming tradition. An event designed for families, curious visitors, and food lovers, which combines the promotion of a Puglian agri-food excellence with the conviviality of village festivals.
The Mandarin and Citrus Festival of the Gulf of Taranto is expected to return to Palagiano (TA) in December 2026, in line with the tradition linking the festival to the citrus harvest season. At the moment, the dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been officially announced and the program has not been published.
Based on the most recent editions, it is reasonable to expect a weekend full of food and wine stalls, tastings of juices, desserts, and liqueurs based on PGI Clementines, artisanal and Christmas markets, live music, and family entertainment in the center of Palagiano for 2026. Information will be updated as soon as the organizers announce the dates and program.
The festival takes place in the center of Palagiano (TA), in Puglia, in the Valle del Lato. The stalls and initiatives enliven the main squares and streets of the town.
Palagiano is easily accessible by car from the SS106 Jonica and the SS7 Appia; the Palagiano-Mottola railway station is served by the Taranto-Metaponto line. The nearest airport is Bari-Palese.
The event is traditionally held in December, coinciding with the citrus harvest season and the start of the Christmas period.
Access to the festival and its initiatives is generally free of charge; tastings at the stalls are paid according to the price lists of individual exhibitors.
