Three days of electronic music between Florence and Scandicci, produced by Tempo Reale
Magnetica – Electronic Music Encounters is the festival conceived and produced by Tempo Reale, the renowned Center for Musical Research, Production, and Education founded in Florence by Luciano Berio in 1987. The event takes place between the Tuscan capital and the Municipality of Scandicci, in the province of Florence, offering three intense days dedicated to contemporary electronic music, where artistic experimentation, critical thinking, and technological innovation meet in a program of workshops, talks, and concerts.
Each edition of Magnetica revolves around three main themes that guide the entire program. Mornings are reserved for training workshops, hosted at the Globo of Villa Strozzi on Via Pisana in Florence, while afternoons and evenings shift to the Auditorium Centro Rogers in Scandicci, on Piazzale della Resistenza, featuring talks, immersive acousmatic concerts, and live audiovisual performances.
The heart of Magnetica is its evening programming, which alternates acousmatic concerts diffused throughout the space with live performances and audiovisual projects. Alongside the concerts, the afternoon talks – which are free to attend – delve into the themes of electronic research, from algorithmic sound generation to vocal research and audiovisual practices. Throughout the festival, visitors can also experience interactive sound installations produced by Tempo Reale, inviting the public to play and perform firsthand.
Magnetica is the fruit of Tempo Reale's long history, which for over thirty years has been one of Italy's leading centers for electronic music and sound experimentation. The festival confirms the Florentine territory's vocation as a laboratory for musical creativity, capable of bridging high-level research with an open, curious public. In a Tuscan context famous primarily for its Renaissance heritage, Magnetica tells the story of a different Tuscany: one of innovation, deep listening, and the future of sound.
The second edition of Magnetica was held from March 18 to 21, 2026, with the public program taking place on March 19, 20, and 21 at the Auditorium Centro Rogers in Scandicci. The edition revolved around three themes: audiovisual art, vocal research, and algorithmic generation processes.
Among the protagonists of the evening concerts was the American vocalist and performer David Moss, in dialogue with Tempo Reale for the project Many More Voices (2011–2026), on March 19. The program also featured the Italian experimental trio Ossatura with Satur Return (2025) on March 20, and the collective audiovisual concert Real-time narratives, curated by Franz Rosati, on March 21. Throughout the festival, the interactive sound installation FUBALINO!, produced by Tempo Reale, was accessible to the public.
Concerts and talks are held at the Auditorium Centro Rogers, located at Piazzale della Resistenza 2/c in Scandicci (FI). The venue is easily accessible from the center of Florence via the tram (line T1, stop in the Resistenza/Scandicci area). By car, Scandicci is connected to the Florence-Pisa-Livorno highway and the Firenze Scandicci exit. Workshops take place at the Globo of Villa Strozzi, at Via Pisana 77 in Florence.
Talks are free to attend. Concerts cost €5 (full price) and €4 (reduced); a "Magnetica Day" pass is available for €12 to attend all concerts on a single day.
