The solidarity-focused Carnival of the Ricetto village, featuring a public bean stew and the traditional omelette dinner
The Magnano Charity Carnival is one of the most beloved events in the small town of Magnano, in the Province of Biella, in the heart of Piedmont. Far from the grand masked parades of the cities, this Carnival preserves the genuine soul of a village festival: a few heartfelt gatherings that bring the entire community together around good food, music, and the spirit of solidarity that gives the event its name.
It is organized by the Magnano Carnival Committee and the Pro Loco Magnano APS, one of the first Pro Loco associations founded in the Biella area, active since 1969. The proceeds from the initiatives support the association's activities and local charitable projects, primarily the enhancement of the Ricetto and the maintenance of the Church of San Secondo.
The festivities are opened by the village's traditional masks: the Magnin and the Magnin'a, accompanied by the general and the vice-general, who invite the population to join the celebration. The classic Carnival program revolves around them, featuring convivial evenings, music, and entertainment for all ages.
The most anticipated moment is the distribution of the bean stew in the square, a symbolic dish of Piedmontese carnivals, cooked and offered to the community in a festive atmosphere. The calendar is completed by dinners requiring reservations, including the traditional omelette dinner at the Pro Loco headquarters, an unmissable appointment for the inhabitants of Magnano and neighboring towns.
The festival is inseparable from the charm of its town. Magnano grew around the Church of San Secondo, a jewel of Biellese Romanesque architecture, and houses one of the best-preserved Ricettos in Piedmont, a medieval fortification built in 1204 on a panoramic ridge. Experiencing the Charity Carnival also means discovering this authentic corner of the Serra Morenica, amidst history, popular traditions, and village hospitality.
Reaching its 44th edition in 2026, the Magnano Charity Carnival testifies to the vitality of a small community that, year after year, chooses to gather and celebrate together, placing conviviality and solidarity at the center.
The 44th edition of the Magnano Charity Carnival was held over three events, opened by the village masks, the Magnin and the Magnin'a, together with the general and the vice-general.
Magnano is located in the Province of Biella, along the Serra Morenica. By car from the A4/A5 motorway, it can be reached via local roads towards the Biella area; the most convenient train stations are Santhiร or Biella, with a continuation by car.
Dinners are held by mandatory reservation with limited seating. For information and bookings, please contact the Pro Loco Magnano APS.
The bean stew in the square is open to everyone. Warm clothing is recommended for outdoor events during the winter months.
