About Magnalonga Celenza

The Magnalonga of Celenza Valfortore is a day of food and wine trekking through the woods of the Northern Monti Dauni, in the hinterland of the Foggia province. An 8-kilometre route punctuated by tasting stops, where you can savour typical Daunian cuisine — sausages, cheeses, baked pasta, and local wine — amidst bright clearings and panoramic views of the Occhito Dam. Organised by the Pro Loco with the patronage of the Municipality, it combines nature, flavours, and live music in one of the most evocative valleys of the Apulian Alto Tavoliere.

A walk through nature and flavours in the Monti Dauni

The Magnalonga of Celenza Valfortore has become one of the most anticipated spring events in the Northern Monti Dauni, the green heart of the Foggia province on the border with Molise. Created to promote slow tourism and the rediscovery of woodland paths, the event transforms a simple hike into a true feast for the senses: you walk immersed in nature and stop along the way to taste the typical products of Daunian cuisine.

The route and the food and wine stops

The trail covers approximately 8 kilometres, with a gentle elevation gain that makes it suitable for families and those who love light trekking. Along the way, there are several rest stops, spaced out from one another, where participants are welcomed with tastings of sausages, cheeses, traditional dishes, and local wine. The route crosses silent woods, clearings, and viewpoints overlooking the Occhito Dam and, on clear days, the snow-capped Maiella mountain range.

The finish and the conviviality

The day concludes with a convivial lunch served in a farmhouse nestled in the woods, where the highlights of local gastronomy are shared — from pork ragù to baked pasta, and traditional desserts — accompanied by live music that enlivens the afternoon until sunset. It is the moment when the fatigue of the walk gives way to celebration and the meeting of hikers who have arrived from various regions of Central and Southern Italy.

A community event

The Magnalonga is organised by the Pro Loco of Celenza Valfortore with the patronage of the Municipality, thanks to the work of volunteers and the support of local associations. Every year, the initiative attracts hundreds of participants from all over Puglia and neighbouring regions, helping to promote Celenza Valfortore and the entire Monti Dauni district as a destination for sustainable, authentic, and human-scale tourism.

Celenza Valfortore and the Monti Dauni

A small village perched at an altitude of about 480 metres in the Alto Tavoliere, Celenza Valfortore belongs to the Northern Monti Dauni community in Puglia. Dominated by its castle and surrounded by woods and olive groves, the town preserves rural traditions and genuine gastronomy that the Magnalonga brings to the fore every year, inviting visitors and curious travellers to discover a corner of Puglia far from the beaten track.

Magnalonga Celenza — edition 2026

The fourth edition of the Magnalonga of Celenza Valfortore took place on Saturday, April 25, 2026, setting a record of approximately 200 participants arriving from Puglia, Molise, Marche, and Abruzzo. A new itinerary through the woods of the Monti Dauni led walkers to discover little-known panoramas, with tasting stops and a final convivial lunch.

Magnalonga 2026: the record-breaking edition

The fourth edition of the Magnalonga of Celenza Valfortore, scheduled for Saturday, April 25, 2026, set a participation record with approximately 200 walkers arriving from Puglia, Molise, Marche, and Abruzzo. The gathering took place at Largo Castello, with departure at 9:00 AM.

The new itinerary and stops

The 2026 edition proposed a new itinerary through the northern woods of the Monti Dauni, with stops at the Sanctuary of Santa Maria delle Grazie — overlooking Lake Occhito and the snow-capped Maiella — in the Mingonga area, rich in ancient trees and fountains, and finally at Casone Iamele, a wildlife centre nestled in the 500 hectares of the Bosco del Puzzano. Here, the final lunch featured pork ragù, baked pasta, desserts, and wine, with live entertainment by the Beat Rock Band.

A special dedication

The 2026 edition was dedicated to the blogger Gianpier Clima, who passed away prematurely and had contributed to the success of the event: a commemorative plaque was presented to his brother Michele. The event, organised by the Pro Loco with the patronage of the Municipality of Celenza Valfortore, benefited from the assistance of the Vespa Club and emergency services along the entire route.
