The food and wine walk through the countryside of Formigine
The Magnalonga Città di Corlo is much more than a walk: it is a community celebration that every year, at the beginning of spring, attracts thousands of people to the countryside of Formigine, in the province of Modena. The idea was born in 2005, after some volunteers from the hamlet of Corlo visited a similar event in Valpolicella and decided to bring it home. The first edition had just over 600 participants: today the Magnalonga welcomes over 3,000, coming from Emilia-Romagna, other Italian regions, and even from abroad.
The route winds for about 10 kilometers, almost entirely immersed in the Formigine countryside, and is strictly done on foot. Along the loop, there are 11 food and wine stops, each dedicated to a local specialty: from fried gnocco with mortadella to the tortelloni of old Modena, from gramigna with sausage to cheese tastings, up to desserts and the final gelato. Accompanying the dishes are regional wines, especially Lambrusco and Pignoletto. Between stops, people walk, sing, and chat: the spirit of the Magnalonga is precisely this, bringing together good food, landscape, and company.
The event is organized by the Parish of Corlo with the patronage of the Municipality of Formigine and the work of over 400 volunteers. The proceeds have always supported projects for the local community: from the renovation of the kindergarten to the theater for young people, up to facilities for the elderly. Participating in the Magnalonga therefore also means contributing to the life of the town.
Walkers start in staggered groups from the Parish of Corlo, in Via Battezzate. The first group sets off early in the morning, and subsequent groups follow at regular intervals, to distribute participants along the route and avoid queues at the stops. Comfortable clothing suitable for both sun and rain is recommended, as you will be walking outdoors in the open countryside.
The nineteenth edition was held on Sunday, May 3, 2026. As tradition dictates, participants departed in groups from the Parish of Corlo in Via Battezzate: the first group at 8:15 AM and subsequent groups at intervals of approximately 25 minutes, arriving 30 minutes before their assigned time.
The route confirmed the approximately 10 km loop through the Formigine countryside, with 11 food and wine stops dedicated to the flavors of the Modena region and the wines of Emilia-Romagna. The event was organized by the Parish of Corlo with the support of over 400 volunteers.
The meeting point is at the Parish of Corlo, in Via Battezzate, in the hamlet of Corlo within the Municipality of Formigine (MO). Corlo is easily reachable by car from the Via Giardini connecting Modena to Sassuolo; recommended highway exit is Modena Sud (A1). By train, the reference station is Modena, from which you can continue by bus or car.
Registration is done online on the official website (maximum 10 people per booking) or at affiliated points in Corlo and Casinalbo. Payments by credit or debit card, Google Pay, and Apple Pay are accepted.
Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring clothing suitable for both sun and rain. The route is about 10 km on country roads and is covered on foot.
