The feast of patron saints Santa Lucia and SS. Giovanni e Paolo in Piazza della Repubblica
The Magliano de' Marsi Patronal Feast is the most anticipated summer event for this town in the Marsica area, in the province of L'Aquila, in the heart of Abruzzo. Every year in late June, the town gathers around its patron saints: Santa Lucia and the Saints Giovanni and Paolo. For three days, community life revolves around the church of Santa Lucia and Piazza della Repubblica, which becomes the hub of the civil celebrations.
The feast originates from popular devotion and still preserves its most authentic rites today: Holy Masses, the solemn procession with the patron saint's statue through the town streets, blank-fire salutes at dawn, the laying of laurel wreaths at war memorials, and the traditional fireworks that mark the highlights of the days. There is no shortage of marching bands, choirs, and the participation of local associations, from civil protection groups to confraternities.
Alongside the religious dimension, the Magliano de' Marsi Patronal Feast has earned a solid reputation over the years for the quality of its free concerts. The stage in Piazza della Repubblica has hosted top names in Italian music: from Anna Tatangelo to Michele Zarrillo, and Enrico Ruggeri, alongside cabaret shows, 80s and 90s dance revivals, and evenings dedicated to younger audiences with DJ sets. The festivities are organized with passion by the town's class committees, in collaboration with the Parish of Santa Lucia and under the patronage of the Municipality of Magliano de' Marsi.
The evenings in the square attract not only the residents of Magliano but also many inhabitants from neighboring towns in the Marsica region, transforming the historic center into a large meeting point filled with food stalls, festive lights, and live music. The Patronal Feast thus represents a strong identity-defining moment, capable of bringing generations together and renewing, year after year, the bond between the community and its patron saints.
The 2026 edition of the Magliano de' Marsi Patronal Feast was held from Friday, June 26 to Sunday, June 28, organized by the Parish of Santa Lucia and the 1976 Class Feast Committee, coordinated by Father Emidio Cerasani, with the patronage of the Municipality of Magliano de' Marsi.
Opening the festivities in Piazza della Repubblica was the Complesso Bandistico Cittร di Magliano, which celebrated its fiftieth anniversary in 2026. The most anticipated moment was the free concert by Enrico Ruggeri, the historic Milanese singer-songwriter, followed by a DJ Set by Jessie Diamond. The closing was entrusted to the band Queen on Fire, performing the greatest hits of Queen.
The program also includes religious celebrations in honor of Santa Lucia and the SS. Giovanni e Paolo.
The festivities take place in the center of Magliano de' Marsi (AQ), with the epicenter in Piazza della Repubblica and the church of Santa Lucia.
By car: Magliano de' Marsi is accessible via the A25 Rome-Pescara motorway (exits for the Marsica area) and the SS5 Tiburtina Valeria road. By train: the Magliano de' Marsi station is served by the Rome-Pescara line. The nearest airport is Rome-Fiumicino.
Concerts in the square are generally free of charge.
