The carnival parade through the streets of the Marsican village
The Magliano de' Marsi Carnival is the event that, at the end of winter, brings colors, masks, and cheer back to the village streets. The town, located in the province of L'Aquila in the heart of Marsica, sits at the foot of the Mount Velino massif, within the Sirente-Velino Regional Natural Park and just a short distance from the famous archaeological site of Alba Fucens. In this mountain setting, the carnival celebration represents a moment of strong community participation, bringing together families, children, and masked groups along the center's streets.
The heart of the event is the allegorical float parade, which kicks off from Piazza Padre Francesco Lolli and winds through the town center amidst confetti, music, and streamers. The procession is accompanied by the Magliano Town Band and majorettes, along with numerous masked groups that enliven the route. The path winds through the town's squares and streets to the finish line, where the party continues with entertainment, shows, and surprises for all ages.
After years of absence, the Magliano Carnival has returned to color the streets of the Municipality of Magliano de' Marsi, reviving a popular tradition dear to the community. The return of the festival was made possible thanks to the commitment of the Municipal Administration and the collaboration of numerous local entities, including the AnimAluco association from Luco dei Marsi, the Pro Loco, the Civil Protection, the Misericordia, and the Amici dell'Immagine association.
The Magliano de' Marsi Carnival is, above all, a village festival: an occasion where the entire community takes to the streets to share a day of fun. Masks, music, entertainment for children, and a great desire to be together make the event one of the most anticipated appointments of the Marsican winter, capable of coloring an entire territory of the Abruzzo mountains with joy.
Those attending the Carnival can take the opportunity to discover the village and its surroundings. Magliano de' Marsi, with its hamlets and the nearby archaeological area of Alba Fucens, preserves a historical and natural heritage of great value. Its location within the Sirente-Velino Park makes it an interesting stop even for those who love the mountains and the landscapes of inland Abruzzo.
