A week of celebration among the districts of Magione, culminating in the Giogo Palio
The Magione Week and Giogo Palio is the event that transforms Magione, in the province of Perugia, into a grand festive village every August. For a week, the historic center and main squares host a playful competition between the four city districts, accompanied by music, folklore, theater, cinema, literary events, and good food served in the district taverns.
The four districts of Magione compete for the Palio: Casenuove, Caserino, Comune, and Stazione. Each district sets up its own tavern with typical Magione traditional dishes and prepares costumes and sets for the historical pageant.
The heart of the event is the Giogo Palio: a challenge that recalls the ancient work in the fields and culminates in a spectacular race through the streets of the center. The competition is preceded by the Giogo Palio Pageant, in which the districts parade in costume, interpreting a historical theme related to daily life in Magione between the 13th and 14th centuries.
The highlight is the Night of the Stars, the concluding evening featuring the historical pageant and the Palio race. The event, organized by the Pro Loco Magione Tourist Association with the support of the Municipality and numerous local associations, is one of the most cherished summer events in the Trasimeno area.
Magione Week and Giogo Palio 2026 returns to liven up the historic center of Magione in the first ten days of August. As tradition dictates, the four districts - Casenuove, Caserino, Comune, and Stazione - will compete with taverns, events, and the historical pageant, with the Giogo Palio race as the highlight of the Night of the Stars.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition, with definitive dates, the theme of the pageant, and the evening schedule, will be published by the Pro Loco Magione Tourist Association on the website prolocomagione.org and on official channels.
The usual structure of the week includes: the Launch of the Challenge in Piazza Carpine with flag-wavers and crossbowmen and the Fast Lap trial; children's games "Districts without Borders" in Piazza Matteotti; evenings of music, theater, cinema, and cultural events; district taverns with typical cuisine; and the concluding Night of the Stars with the Giogo Palio Pageant and the race between the districts.
