About Magione Carnival

The Magione Carnival is one of the oldest carnival traditions in Umbria, organized by the Pro Loco of Magione since 1961. Parades of allegorical floats and masked groups cross the town on Lake Trasimeno, leading to the most anticipated moment: the 'Trial of Toni', the historic Magione mask condemned to the stake. A popular and ironic festival in the heart of the province of Perugia.

The Carnival Tradition of Trasimeno

The Magione Carnival is one of the most deeply rooted events in Magione, a town on Lake Trasimeno in the province of Perugia. The first event organized by the newly formed Pro Loco of Magione was precisely the Carnival, in 1961: since then, the festival has been renewed every year, becoming an identity-defining event for the community.

Allegorical Floats and the 'Trial of Toni'

The heart of the event is the parades of allegorical floats and masked groups that animate the town's streets. However, the most anticipated moment is the 'Trial of Toni': Toni is the symbolic mask of Magione, originally purchased from the carnival of Foiano della Chiana, who at the end of the parade is put on trial and condemned to the stake in Piazza Matteotti, in a theatrical and ironic representation that concludes the festival.

A Festival for the Entire Community

Organized by the Pro Loco Magione, the Magione Carnival is a popular and family-friendly festival that combines satire, tradition, and fun. It's an opportunity to discover a Trasimeno village outside the summer tourist season, experiencing its authentic community spirit.
