Christmas in Angri, City of Art: a festive village, markets, and Santa's Castle
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Magic Castle is the major Christmas event held in the Municipality of Angri, in the province of Salerno, in the heart of the Agro Nocerino-Sarnese area in Campania. For several weeks, from mid-November to late December, the city's historic center takes on a new look: the monumental Castello Doria, Piazza Doria, and the Villa Comunale are linked by a single illuminated path that combines markets, attractions, shows, and cultural tours. The event is promoted by the municipal administration as part of the ยซ Angri City of Art ยป project and is organized with the free participation of CM Advisor, involving local schools, associations, and private partners.
The heart of the event is Santa's Castle, set up across two floors inside the Castello Doria. The route winds through Santa's living room and library, the toy factory with its artisan elves, the candy factory, gaming areas, a Christmas cinema, and interactive installations, leading to the 14th-century Salone dei Doria, where Santa Claus welcomes children. Admission to Santa's Castle has always been free, a choice the administration has championed as key to the event's inclusivity.
Piazza Doria and the Villa Comunale host the Christmas village itself, which is particularly lively on weekends. Here you will find:
Among the novelties introduced in recent editions are the Magic Train, a tour that takes visitors to discover the historic center and the city's most characteristic streets, and the immersive nativity scene: an installation that combines technological innovation with the traditional Campanian nativity craft, set right in Angri. According to the organizers, it is destined to grow in future editions with new locations and characters. Completing the picture is Angri Advent, the digital Advent calendar that reveals one of the city's twenty-five historic sites every day from December 1st to 25th, from the Collegiate Church of San Giovanni Battista to the churches and Gothic-Catalan portals.
Magic Castle is more than just a market: the event focuses heavily on the educational aspect and organized hospitality. Every year, guided tours for schools and tourist groups are available, featuring creative workshops, readings, exhibitions, theatrical and musical performances, and charity initiatives. In the 2025 edition, thousands of students arrived in group visits, along with dozens of buses from outside the province.
The results of the 2025 edition, published by local press in early January 2026, report over 80,000 visitors who arrived not only from Campania but also from Lazio, Puglia, Basilicata, Abruzzo, Molise, and Calabria. ยซ These two months have demonstrated Angri's ability to welcome and tell its story through culture ยป, commented councilor Mariagiovanna Falcone. The stated goal is to further grow the event, consolidating Angri as a cultural and tourist landmark for the area.
Angri is located halfway between Naples and Salerno, at the foot of the Lattari Mountains and just a few kilometers from Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast: a position that makes Magic Castle easily combined with a day trip to the Vesuvian archaeological area or the inland Agro region. The Castello Doria, with its fortified structure renovated in the 18th century, is the symbol of the city and becomes accessible to the public in a completely unusual guise during the event.
As of the update of this page, the Municipality of Angri and the Magic Castle organization have not yet released the calendar for the new Christmas edition. In the report for the previous edition, released in early January 2026, the organizers declared their goal to expand the event and specifically grow the immersive nativity scene, with new city locations and new characters.
It is reasonable to expect the same proven formula โ a Christmas village with markets and street food in Piazza Doria and the Villa Comunale, a Ferris wheel, an ice rink, rides, and Santa's Castle set up in Castello Doria โ but nothing is officially confirmed yet. For dates, the show program, and bookings for schools and groups, it is best to follow the magicastle.it website and the event's official social media channels.
Angri can be reached by car via the A3 Naples-Salerno motorway (Angri exit) and by train from the Angri station on the Naples-Salerno line. The attractions are concentrated in Piazza Doria, the Villa Comunale, and the Castello Doria, all within short walking distance of each other in the historic center.
The village in Piazza Doria and the Villa Comunale is traditionally lively on Saturdays and Sundays, while rides and children's attractions remain open every day. Santa's Castle opens in December, up until Christmas Eve.
Access to the village, markets, and Santa's Castle is free. Some attractions (Ferris wheel, ice rink, rides, train) require a ticket to be purchased on-site.

The historic center is very busy on December weekends: it is best to arrive early or in the early afternoon and leave your car in the peripheral parking lots. Wear comfortable, warm clothing, especially if you plan to go ice skating.
