A district festival in the heart of Abruzzo

The Madonna degli Angeli Festival is the most anticipated summer event for the Madonna degli Angeli district, a rural area located about a mile and a half from the historic center of Loreto Aprutino, a hilltop village in the province of Pescara, in the heart of Abruzzo. Every year, in the first days of August, the small community gathers around the little church dedicated to the Virgin of the Angels to renew a devotion passed down through generations.

Liturgical celebrations and the procession, which carries the statue of the Madonna through the streets of the district amidst the faithful, festive lights, and the sound of the band, take place around the Church of the Madonna degli Angeli, a subsidiary church of the local parish. The organization is entrusted to the San Zopito Festival Committee, a historic Loreto-based committee also linked to the town's major patronal celebrations, together with the district's CAMAFA Association. Their voluntary efforts keep alive a tradition that represents an important piece of the identity of Loreto Aprutino, a town known for its splendid medieval center, high-quality extra virgin olive oil, and a rich calendar of events that enliven the summer in Abruzzo.
