The night regatta in the moonlight on Lake Garda
The Macc Race is one of the most scenic regattas in the calendar of the Fraglia Vela Desenzano (province of Brescia): a competition that takes place at night, using the moonlight to navigate the waters of Lake Garda after sunset.
The classic course takes boats from Desenzano del Garda northwards, towards Riva del Garda, and then back to the starting point. The ORC, one-design, and amateur classes participate in the regatta, in a challenge that tests the crews' experience in night navigation, amidst light breezes and wind shifts typical of the lake.
Founded in 1958, Fraglia Vela Desenzano is one of the historic sailing clubs on the lake and organises a busy calendar of regattas throughout the year. The Macc Race, with its night-time format, is one of the most popular events for sailing enthusiasts and offers a fascinating spectacle even to those watching from Desenzano's lakefront promenade.
In 2026, the Macc Race returns on July 11th and 12th, confirming its night-time format. Boats from the ORC, one-design, and amateur classes will compete along the route from Desenzano del Garda towards Riva del Garda and back, sailing in the full moonlight. The regatta is organised by Fraglia Vela Desenzano in the Desenzano gulf.
The Notice of Race, start times, and instructions are published by Fraglia Vela Desenzano on fragliavela.it.
