The nocturnal firefly walk in Flavon, Val di Non
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Luciolada Nonesa is a night walk organized by the Pro Loco Flavon in the territory of the Municipality of Contà, in Val di Non, in the autonomous province of Trento (Trentino-Alto Adige). The initiative was created to guide both young and old to discover one of the most evocative phenomena of early summer: the appearance of fireflies, which illuminate the meadows and forest edges of the lower Val di Non with their soft, intermittent glow on nights between late May and June.
The "luciolada" is an evening walk that takes place after dark along the paths and countryside surrounding Flavon, one of the hamlets of Contà along with Cunevo and Terres. Far from the light pollution of residential areas, participants can observe fireflies in their natural habitat, a small light show that has become increasingly precious in recent decades due to the progressive decline of these insects.
The event has a strong family and environmental focus: it is an opportunity to spend an evening outdoors, learn about the nocturnal fauna of the valley, and share a moment of wonder, especially for children.
Flavon is located in the lower Val di Non, along an ancient Roman route that connected the valley to the Adige valley floor. The village, nestled in the "valley of castles," preserves the parish church of the Nativity of Saint John the Baptist and the ruins of Castel Flavon, remnants of a feudal past. The territory of Contà, with its three villages, is crossed by itineraries such as the Margherita trail, which connects Cunevo, Flavon, and Terres by following the traces of water and offers the ideal setting for a walk immersed in nature.
The Luciolada Nonesa is part of the event calendar of the Pro Loco of Trentino, the network of associations that promotes the territory, traditions, and community life of the villages. It is a free, participatory event designed to reconnect residents and visitors with the slow pace of the Nonesa countryside and the natural heritage of the valley.
At the moment, the Pro Loco Flavon has not yet released the date for the 2026 edition of the Luciolada Nonesa. The event, which took place in June in 2025, is traditionally scheduled during the period when fireflies appear in the lower Val di Non. It is recommended to check for updates from the Pro Loco Flavon and the Trentino Pro Loco calendar to find out the date and times as soon as they are confirmed.
