About Lu Sammartinu

Every autumn, Corso della Repubblica in Ravanusa, in the Agrigento hinterland, comes alive with the Lu Sammartinu Festival, a celebration dedicated to St. Martin and the flavors of the season. Launched in 2023 by the young members of the SpaceR Association in collaboration with the Municipality, the event celebrates new wine, roasted chestnuts, fresh ricotta, and pork, following the ancient Sicilian saying, "at St. Martin's, every must becomes wine." With food stalls, an artisan market, live performances, and entertainment for children, it has become a highly anticipated fixture of Ravanusa's popular traditions.

A festival born from the youth of Ravanusa

The Lu Sammartinu Festival is an autumn event held in Ravanusa, a town in the hinterland of the province of Agrigento, Sicily. Established in 2023 through the initiative of the SpaceR Association—a group of local young people—in partnership with the Municipality of Ravanusa, the festival has quickly established itself as one of the most cherished events on the town's calendar. The heart of the celebration is the long Corso della Repubblica, which transforms for several evenings into a journey of taste, music, and tradition.

St. Martin and the new wine

The event is linked to the figure of St. Martin and the end of the grape harvest, when the must turns into wine. As the Sicilian proverb "at St. Martin's, every must becomes wine" reminds us, the festival celebrates the arrival of new wine and typical November products. Along the Corso, you can enjoy:

  • freshly roasted chestnuts;
  • fresh ricotta and local cheeses;
  • grilled pork;
  • local new wine;
  • sweets and specialties from the Sicilian peasant tradition.

Stalls, crafts, and shows

Alongside the food stalls, the festival features an artisan market with exhibitors, handmade products, and local creations, as well as displays of agricultural machinery that highlight Ravanusa's rural roots. The entertainment program includes live shows, music, DJ sets, and cabaret performances, with an area dedicated to children's entertainment, featuring games and workshops. Over the years, the festival has hosted well-known faces of Sicilian comedy, helping to attract visitors from neighboring towns.

A growing tradition

With a focus on promoting popular traditions and the work of young Sicilian farmers, Lu Sammartinu combines conviviality, local identity, and a commitment to the territory. The free, open-air event is an opportunity to rediscover the authentic flavors of the Agrigento autumn and experience the center of Ravanusa in a festive setting.
