The science of longevity hits the streets in the heart of the Maremma
The Longevity Festival has chosen Capalbio, in the Maremma region of Grosseto, for its grand debut. Promoted by the International Institute of Neurobioethics (IINBE), the project was conceived following the success of the Vatican Longevity Summit with a clear objective: to take the scientific and bioethical debate on longevity out of academic halls and into the squares, among the people. The Municipality of Capalbio provides patronage and logistical support for the initiative, which is organized in collaboration with CCN Capalbio.
The festival addresses one of the central themes of our time: how to live longer and better. It is not just about adding years to life, but about ensuring the quality of life within those years. The project is inspired by the principles of the Ethical Charter on Healthy Aging and the Decalogue for Global Longevity accessible to all, documents developed during the Vatican Longevity Summit. In Capalbio, these principles become a dialogue open to the public, free and accessible to anyone who wishes to participate.
The choice of Capalbio is no coincidence. The medieval village perched on the hills of the Maremma, in the province of Grosseto, has been a destination for intellectuals, artists, and figures of Italian culture for decades. The Piazzetta di Palazzo Collacchioni, the historic heart of the town, offers the ideal setting for a meeting that combines science, art, and ethical reflection under the Tuscan sky.
Capalbio is just the first stop on a wider journey. After the Tuscan appointment, the Longevity Festival continues to Capri on September 11, 2026, and concludes in Venice in the autumn. A traveling format that aims to root a new culture of longevity in local communities, built on relationships, beauty, and the spirit of giving. Capalbio, in the Tuscany Region, thus becomes the starting point for a reflection that concerns everyone.
The inaugural edition of the Longevity Festival opens in Capalbio, launching the national tour promoted by the International Institute of Neurobioethics following the success of the second Vatican Longevity Summit. A public and free meeting that brings the reflection on healthy, sustainable, and holistic longevity to the Maremma village.
Meeting title: "Relationships, Beauty, and Giving: the human brain between art, law, and altruism".
The meeting is organized in collaboration with CCN Capalbio and with the patronage and logistical support of the Municipality of Capalbio.
The inaugural meeting was held on Friday, June 12, 2026, at 6:15 PM in the Piazzetta di Palazzo Collacchioni, in the historic center of Capalbio (GR), Tuscany.
The event is free and open to the public.
Capalbio can be reached by car via the SS1 Aurelia, taking the Capalbio Scalo exit and then driving up towards the hilltop village. The reference railway station is Capalbio Scalo, on the Rome-Grosseto line. The historic village is approximately 8 km from the station.
