About Lo Spino

Lo Spino — Legends on the Ascent is the non-competitive re-enactment of the historic Pieve Santo Stefano hill climb in the Valtiberina valley (Province of Arezzo, Tuscany). Vintage race cars, prototypes, and rally vehicles driven by champions and collectors parade along the hairpin bends of the SP208 della Verna road as it climbs toward the Passo dello Spino. The fourth edition, scheduled for July 11–12, 2026, moves forward by over two months from the traditional late-September date, celebrating a route that has been a legend of Italian motorsport since 1965.

A legend returns to the climb

Lo Spino — Legends on the Ascent is the dynamic, non-competitive re-enactment of the legendary hill climb that, starting on September 5, 1965, brought fame to the Municipality of Pieve Santo Stefano, in the heart of the Valtiberina, in the Province of Arezzo and the heart of Tuscany. The original 12.7-kilometer track along the SP208 della Verna Provincial Road climbed from Pieve Santo Stefano to the Passo dello Spino, carving a natural circuit through hairpins and forests that still makes enthusiasts' hearts race today.

Not a race, but a parade of legends

The event is not a timed competition, but a parade of historic vehicles retracing the climb for the pure love of the sport. Authentic four-wheeled jewels appear on the asphalt: Alfa Romeo GTA and GTAM, Lancia Fulvia Coupé and HF, Lancia Stratos, Alpine Renault, Fiat Abarth, and racing prototypes, accompanied by Group 4 and Group B rally cars. They are driven not only by collectors but also by drivers who have made history in hill climb racing.

The fourth edition: July 11 and 12, 2026

The fourth edition, scheduled for Saturday, July 11, and Sunday, July 12, 2026, marks an important change: moving to July instead of the usual late-September slot, a choice made to offer participants and the public more favorable weather conditions. The 2026 edition is dedicated to the memory of Enzo Osella, the Turin-based constructor who was a key figure in the history of hill climbs, featuring a trophy named in his honor and the expected participation of Osella prototypes, including models linked to Formula 1 history.

Historic cars, culture, and conviviality

  • Double parade on the SP208 route toward the Passo dello Spino
  • Vehicle exhibition and paddock open to the public
  • Trophy in memory of Enzo Osella and collaboration with the Coppa Ugo Barone
  • Book presentations and moments dedicated to motoring culture
  • The Attilio Fantini Collection with its famous Fiat 131 Abarth

An event for the region

Organized by the Pro Spino Team together with the Club Il Saracino of Arezzo and in collaboration with CAMET and ASI (Automotoclub Storico Italiano), the event involves the entire Valtiberina, showcasing the villages of the Casentino and Arezzo areas between Pieve Santo Stefano, Chiusi della Verna, and Sansepolcro. An appointment that combines a passion for vintage engines with the Tuscan landscape of the Apennines, in a weekend of roaring engines, elegance, and sporting memory.
