The national award celebrating Sicilian identity in Carlentini
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Leone d'Argento Award is the most iconic cultural event in the town of Carlentini, located in the heart of the Syracuse province, Sicily. Established in 1986 and inspired by the Rampant Lionโthe city's ancient symbolโthe award was created to pay tribute to those in the worlds of culture and business who have promoted Sicily's name. Each edition turns this town in the Syracuse area into a showcase of island excellence, filled with emotion, recognition, and live performances.
Alongside the main Leone d'Argento, the event presents the "Francesco Favara Adorni" Sicilian Identity Award, dedicated to individuals born in Carlentini or deeply connected to Sicily. Over the years, the stage in Piazza Diaz has hosted writers, actors, journalists, artists, and local companies, selected by a jury composed of figures from the artistic, academic, and journalistic worlds.
The heart of the award is the grand open-air evening in Piazza Diaz, which is free and open to the public. The ceremony is interspersed with musical moments, artist performances, ballet stars, and guests from film and television, creating an atmosphere that blends community pride with entertainment. The event is sponsored by the Municipality of Carlentini, the Sicilian Region, and the Ministry of Culture.
Founded in the 16th century and situated on the plateau between the Plain of Catania and the Syracuse area, Carlentini uses this award as an opportunity to reaffirm its identity and its bond with the great Sicilian cultural tradition. Today, the Leone d'Argento is a highly anticipated event, capable of attracting nationally renowned figures to the city and strengthening the sense of belonging for the entire community.
The dates for the 2026 edition of the Leone d'Argento Award have not yet been announced. In recent years, the evening has taken place in September in Piazza Diaz, in Carlentini (SR), with the presentation of the Leone d'Argento and the Sicilian Identity Award. We recommend following the channels of the Pro Loco Carlentini ETS and the Associazione Culturale La Meta to find out the date, winners, and guests as soon as they are announced.
