Meetings on civic memory and active citizenship in the Chiostro delle Clarisse in Terlizzi
The Legality Festival is one of the most deeply rooted civic engagement events in Puglia. Established in 2012 in Terlizzi, in the heart of the Metropolitan City of Bari, the event is organized by the social promotion association È Fatto Giorno and transforms the city into a laboratory for active citizenship education every spring. Dedicated to the memory of victims of the mafia and the defense of rights, the festival has received recognition from the President of the Italian Republic over the years.
The meetings take place in the intimate Chiostro delle Clarisse, one of Terlizzi's most evocative historical spaces, which becomes a forum for discussion and dialogue at nightfall. Each evening begins at 7:00 PM and focuses on a different theme: from investigative journalism to the state of international law, and from freedom of expression to social inclusion. Admission is always free, in keeping with the event's popular and participatory spirit.
Over the years, the festival stage has hosted leading figures in Italian civic life, from Ilaria Cucchi to Paolo Borrometi, and from Luca Trapanese to various magistrates, writers, and university professors. The collaboration with MicroMega magazine—a historic publication covering culture, politics, science, and philosophy—enriches the program with debates on social justice, human rights, and democratic memory.
With the patronage of the Municipality of Terlizzi, the Puglia Region, and the Vincenzo Casillo Foundation, the Legality Festival represents a point of reference for those who believe that defending legality is, as the motto of the 2026 edition states, a commitment that is «always worth it».
The 2026 edition of the Legality Festival celebrated the fifteenth anniversary of the event and the fortieth anniversary of MicroMega with three high-intensity civic evenings, all at 7:00 PM in the Chiostro delle Clarisse in Terlizzi, with free admission.
The festival addressed major current issues: the memory of investigative journalism, the crisis of international law, and freedom of expression threatened by strategic lawsuits, confirming its status as one of the main civic engagement events in Puglia.
Terlizzi is located in the hinterland of the Metropolitan City of Bari. By car, it can be reached via the SS16bis and the A14 motorway (Molfetta or Bari Nord exits). The Terlizzi train station is served by the Ferrotramviaria Bari-Barletta line. The meetings are held in the Chiostro delle Clarisse, located in the historic city center.
Meetings begin at 7:00 PM. Admission is free and open to the public until capacity is reached.
