About Legality Festival

Every May, Terlizzi becomes a hub for memory and active citizenship thanks to the Legality Festival, an event promoted by the È Fatto Giorno association in collaboration with MicroMega magazine. In the evocative Chiostro delle Clarisse, journalists, magistrates, writers, and activists gather for free evening sessions dedicated to justice, human rights, and the fight against organized crime. A cultural fixture that blends civic engagement, satire, and reflection, drawing in young people, schools, and associations from across the Metropolitan City of Bari.

A festival that cultivates memory against indifference

The Legality Festival is one of the most deeply rooted civic engagement events in Puglia. Established in 2012 in Terlizzi, in the heart of the Metropolitan City of Bari, the event is organized by the social promotion association È Fatto Giorno and transforms the city into a laboratory for active citizenship education every spring. Dedicated to the memory of victims of the mafia and the defense of rights, the festival has received recognition from the President of the Italian Republic over the years.

The Chiostro delle Clarisse, the heart of the festival

The meetings take place in the intimate Chiostro delle Clarisse, one of Terlizzi's most evocative historical spaces, which becomes a forum for discussion and dialogue at nightfall. Each evening begins at 7:00 PM and focuses on a different theme: from investigative journalism to the state of international law, and from freedom of expression to social inclusion. Admission is always free, in keeping with the event's popular and participatory spirit.

Voices from journalism, the judiciary, and culture

Over the years, the festival stage has hosted leading figures in Italian civic life, from Ilaria Cucchi to Paolo Borrometi, and from Luca Trapanese to various magistrates, writers, and university professors. The collaboration with MicroMega magazine—a historic publication covering culture, politics, science, and philosophy—enriches the program with debates on social justice, human rights, and democratic memory.

A civic stronghold for the Puglia region

  • Free evening meetings with journalists, magistrates, writers, and activists
  • Themes related to legality, anti-mafia efforts, rights, and freedom of the press
  • Presentations of books and current affairs essays
  • Moments of satire and reflection on freedom of expression
  • Involvement of youth, schools, and local associations

With the patronage of the Municipality of Terlizzi, the Puglia Region, and the Vincenzo Casillo Foundation, the Legality Festival represents a point of reference for those who believe that defending legality is, as the motto of the 2026 edition states, a commitment that is «always worth it».

Legality Festival — edition 2026

The 15th edition of the Legality Festival took place in Terlizzi on May 22, 27, and 28, 2026, in the Chiostro delle Clarisse, under the theme «It is always worth it». An edition with strong symbolic value, combining the 40th anniversary of MicroMega magazine with 15 years of cultural presence by the È Fatto Giorno association in the Puglia region.

15th edition: «It is always worth it»

The 2026 edition of the Legality Festival celebrated the fifteenth anniversary of the event and the fortieth anniversary of MicroMega with three high-intensity civic evenings, all at 7:00 PM in the Chiostro delle Clarisse in Terlizzi, with free admission.

The festival addressed major current issues: the memory of investigative journalism, the crisis of international law, and freedom of expression threatened by strategic lawsuits, confirming its status as one of the main civic engagement events in Puglia.
