Carnival in the Baroque Capital
Every February, the Lecce Carnival transforms the capital of Salento into a grand open-air stage. Amidst the Lecce stone facades and the squares of the historic center, the city enjoys weeks of masked parades, roaming music, and performances that reach every neighborhood. It is a widespread and popular Carnival, designed to be experienced in the streets, free of charge, and open to both residents and visitors.
A program for the whole city
The event is coordinated by the Lecce Municipal Administration, which curates a calendar each year designed to engage every age group. Alongside the major events in Piazza Sant'Oronzo — the city's beating heart, dominated by the patron saint's column and the remains of the Roman amphitheater — there are parties in neighborhood community centers, grand balls, initiatives dedicated to seniors and people with disabilities, and plenty of activities for the little ones.

Lecce Carnival — edition 2026
The Lecce Carnival 2026 was held from February 7 to 22 with a program organized by the municipal administration and spread throughout the city. The festival combined major events in the square with initiatives dedicated to neighborhoods, seniors, and families, confirming the popular and inclusive character of this Salento event.
Among the most anticipated moments were the "Lu Carnevale te na fiata" parade in Piazza Sant'Oronzo, the children's masked procession from Porta San Biagio to the municipal villa, the historic "Lu Carnevale camenatu" in San Cataldo, and the evening musical show "The Topper Show". The event concluded with the traditional Great Pentolaccia and chiacchiere.

Getting there
Lecce is served by the railway station on the Adriatic line, with direct connections from Bari, Brindisi, and Rome. By car, it can be reached via the SS 613 Brindisi-Lecce or the SS 16. The nearest airport is Brindisi-Casale (approx. 40 km).
Where it takes place
The main events are held in Piazza Sant'Oronzo in the historic center, at Porta San Biagio, and in the Marina di San Cataldo. Many initiatives also animate the neighborhood community centers.
Tickets
Lecce Carnival events are free and open to the public.
Tips
The historic center is a limited traffic zone: it is best to leave your car in the outer parking lots and continue on foot. This is also an ideal time to visit the Baroque churches and the Basilica of Santa Croce.
