About Le Rinascenze by Night

For two August evenings, the monumental park of Villa Reale di Marlia in Capannori (LU) transforms into an open-air theater of light, sound, and awe. Le Rinascenze by Night is an immersive arts and performance festival conceived by the Scuola d'Arte Kreativa of Lucca: video-mapping on historic facades, theatrical shows, choral concerts, dance, fire performances, bubble artists, acrobatics, and immersive installations bring the illuminated avenues of the sixteen-hectare garden to life, alongside art exhibitions, craft markets, and workshops for children.

A night of wonder at Villa Reale di Marlia

As darkness falls over the monumental park of Villa Reale di Marlia, in the municipality of Capannori (Province of Lucca, Tuscany), one of the most evocative summer events in the Lucca plain comes to life. Le Rinascenze by Night is an immersive arts and performance festival that, for two evenings, turns the sixteen hectares of historic gardens into a continuous journey of lights, sounds, and visions. Its guiding philosophy is simple yet powerful: to prove that, even today, wonder is always possible.

Who organizes the festival

The event was created by the Scuola d'Arte Kreativa of Lucca (Associazione Kreativa Aps) and is held under the patronage of the Municipality of Capannori. Over the years, Le Rinascenze has become a highly anticipated appointment for the entire region, attracting hundreds of artists and thousands of visitors to a park that is a masterpiece in its own right, featuring the famous Teatro di Verzura, lemon houses, stables, and the bishop's villa.

Art along the illuminated avenues

The heart of the festival is the evening stroll through the gardens: performances and installations unfold simultaneously and continuously along the paths. The most spectacular moments are the video-mapping displays, which project geometries, colors, and optical effects onto the facade of the bishop's villa and the east side of the stables, alongside light shows that grow more numerous and varied each year.

  • Live entertainment: theater, ethnic and oriental dance, comedy, acrobatics, fire performances, and bubble artists.
  • Music: classical and pop concerts, and evocative choral performances in the Chapel of San Francesco.
  • Visual arts: painting, sculpture, and photography exhibitions set up inside the stables and lemon houses, featuring updated artist galleries and light-based works.
  • For children: puppet shows, storytellers, magicians, and magic acts, as well as free art workshops and guided activities for families.

The artistic lounge and the Night of the Stars

Among the most curated events is the artistic lounge, a series of cultural meetings with guest speakers. A collaboration with the local astronomical observatory also brings night-sky observation to the park, in keeping with the August Night of the Stars tradition, allowing visitors to admire the constellations with digital equipment and expert guides.

Market and atmosphere

The illuminated avenues also host art and craft markets, while food and drink stalls scattered throughout the park allow visitors to turn their visit into a complete evening out. The combination of the historic garden's charm, the lighting, and the multitude of artistic expressions makes Le Rinascenze by Night an experience perfectly suited for couples, families, and art lovers in one of Tuscany's most beautiful landscapes.
