Contemporary art exhibition at Palazzo Risolo

Le Fil Rouge, also known as The Red Thread of Specchia, is a contemporary art exhibition that brings the village of Specchia, in the province of Lecce, to life every summer. Located in one of the most evocative areas of lower Salento, Specchia is officially recognized as one of the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy. The event was born in 2015 from the vision of local artist Viviana Cazzato and is promoted by the Nenè cultural association, with the goal of bringing contemporary art out of traditional circuits and into the history-steeped rooms of Palazzo Risolo.
The name of the exhibition reflects its very formula: each year, the curator selects a common theme—the red thread, so to speak—and entrusts it to a group of Italian and international artists. Each is free to interpret it through their own language and sensibility, creating an exhibition path that weaves together diverse disciplines: painting, sculpture, and photography engage in a dialogue within the palace halls, offering visitors a choral and ever-evolving interpretation of the chosen subject.
The heart of the exhibition is Palazzo Risolo, a historic residence in the center of Specchia whose rooms become a sprawling gallery for several weeks. The layout enhances the relationship between contemporary works and ancient architecture, creating a contrast that is an integral part of the visitor experience. The exhibition is open during the evening hours, when the cool breeze of the village and the lights shining on the white stone of Salento accompany a stroll among the artworks.
Over the years, Le Fil Rouge has become a staple of the Specchia summer, supported by the Municipality of Specchia, the local Pro Loco, the Province of Lecce, and the Puglia Region. The exhibition combines the village's tourism appeal with the promotion of contemporary art, offering residents and visitors another reason to discover Specchia during the months of July and August. Free admission makes it an event open to everyone, from art enthusiasts to families vacationing in Salento.
The 2026 edition of Le Fil Rouge has not yet been officially announced. Based on previous editions, the contemporary art exhibition is expected to return to Palazzo Risolo, in the historic center of Specchia (LE), between July and August, featuring the usual format of a themed collective exhibition with free admission. Information regarding dates, the theme, and artists will be published by the Nenè cultural association, the Pro Loco, and the Municipality of Specchia as soon as it becomes available.
