Lavis Fiorita

A town dressed in flowers

Lavis Fiorita is one of the longest-running and most beloved initiatives promoted by the Pro Loco of Lavis, in the municipality of Lavis, in the autonomous province of Trento, in the heart of Trentino-Alto Adige. Reaching its 64th edition in 2025, the event is a true floral competition that, every year at the beginning of summer, involves residents in beautifying the town by tending to their balconies, terraces, gardens, and flowerbeds.

How the competition works

The principle of Lavis Fiorita is simple and participatory: anyone living in Lavis can register their green space, provided it is visible from the outside, thus contributing to the decor and collective beauty of the town's streets. During the peak of the flowering season, participants send photographs of their floral corners; upon request, the Pro Loco's own photographers can capture the spaces in the competition. A jury then evaluates the most successful compositions, distinguishing between the different categories of balconies, terraces, and flowerbeds.

The awards ceremony

The competition concludes with an awards ceremony usually held in the following months, serving as a festive gathering for the community. Over the years, the ceremony has combined the presentation of awards with cultural and social moments: poetry readings, live musical accompaniment, and practical floriculture tips for those wishing to cultivate an increasingly lush green thumb.

An initiative that unites the community

Lavis Fiorita is much more than a simple competition: it is a way to strengthen the sense of belonging and to enhance the identity of the Piana Rotaliana territory, famous for its vineyards and the culture of well-tended landscapes. The initiative is part of a tradition widespread throughout Trentino, where numerous Pro Loco associations promote similar competitions dedicated to balconies and flower gardens, a sign of a deep bond between alpine communities and nature.
