A widespread summer celebration across the Valdarno municipality featuring theatre, music, and local traditions
The Summer Festival is the cultural programme that accompanies the warmer months each year in the municipality of Laterina Pergine Valdarno, in the Province of Arezzo, Tuscany. Rather than being concentrated in a single square, it is a widespread and travelling event that touches the various hamlets of the municipal territory, from Laterina to Pergine, and from Montalto to Ponticino. It is a project born from a participatory process, coordinated by the Department of Culture, which places the community at its core.
The programme weaves together different genres and audiences: theatrical performances, live music, book presentations, cultural initiatives, food and wine events, and moments dedicated to the popular traditions of the Valdarno. It is a summer designed for all ages, alternating sophisticated evenings with more convivial village festivals, creating opportunities for residents and visitors to meet.
One of the iconic venues of the festival is the Castello di Montozzi, an ancient manor documented since the 13th century and a historic sentinel of the Valdarno. Here, under the summer stars, one of the festival's most anticipated theatrical events comes to life: a scenic backdrop that transforms the performance into a timeless experience. The choice to bring theatre into the villages and historic sites is an integral part of the Summer Festival's identity.
The philosophy of the event is clear: culture accessible to everyone. Most of the events are free of charge and open to the entire citizenry and anyone wishing to attend. In just a few editions, the Summer Festival has become a point of reference for those who want to experience the Valdarno summer through art, music, and socialising, while discovering a territory rich in history and picturesque views.
The 4th edition of the Summer Festival confirms the widespread format, with events distributed throughout the municipal territory between June and September 2026. The programme alternates theatre, live music, food and wine, and popular festivals, involving the hamlets of Laterina, Pergine, Montalto, and Ponticino.
The flagship theatrical event takes place in the evocative setting of the Castello di Montozzi, where the play Solo morti is performed. Alongside the theatre, the Valdarno summer offers musical evenings, beer festivals, and local food fairs that bring the municipality's villages to life.
The complete calendar, including further musical evenings, book presentations, and cultural initiatives, is published and updated on the municipal portal throughout the summer.
Laterina Pergine Valdarno is located in the Province of Arezzo, along the Arno valley. By car, it can be reached via the A1 motorway (Valdarno or Arezzo exit) and the SR69 road. By train, the Laterina station is served by the FlorenceโArezzo line.
Most Summer Festival events are free of charge, subject to availability. The complete and updated calendar is published on the municipal portal and the municipality's events website.
