The summer football challenge between the five districts of Larciano
The Larciano Districts Tournament is the major amateur football festival that enlivens the municipality of Larciano every summer, in the heart of the Valdinievole, in the province of Pistoia. For several weeks between June and July, the Stadio Idilio Cei becomes the evening meeting point for the entire town: five teams, each representing a district, compete for the town trophy in an atmosphere of healthy rivalry, passionate support, and a desire to come together.
The teams representing the neighborhoods and hamlets of the municipal area are:
Each district has its own colors, its own godmother, and its own following of fans: the rivalry is intense but always friendly, helping to make the evenings under the stadium floodlights truly unforgettable.
The tournament has deep roots in Larciano's social and sporting history. After a long hiatus, the event has returned to the town, reviving a tradition deeply felt by the community. The cup, decorated with the emblems of the five districts, is kept in the Town Hall and represents the symbol of neighborhood pride that is renewed every year.
What makes the Districts Tournament special is not just the technical level of the matchesโwhich is consistently highโbut above all the festive atmosphere that accompanies it. Inside the stadium, a bar and refreshment service are run by local associations, while the evenings are enriched by the presence of the district godmothers and various entertainment moments. The presentation dinner that kicks off each edition attracts many participants and is proof of the deep bond between the tournament and the people of Larciano.
The event is organized by Larcianese Calcio, affiliated with the UISP Pistoia section, under the patronage of the Municipality of Larciano. The finals and award ceremonies, dedicated to the memory of historic local sports figures, are the concluding moments of a journey that transforms Larciano into a stage for sporting passion and Tuscan popular tradition every summer.
The 2026 Larciano Districts Tournament returns to enliven the town's summer evenings from June 5 to July 9 at the Stadio Idilio Cei. All matches kick off at 9:15 PM. The format includes a round-robin stage, semi-finals, and a grand final: the top four teams from the group stage advance to the final phase.
The five Larciano districts are in the running: Larciano, San Rocco (reigning champion), Levante, Cecina Ponente, and Biccimurri Colonna. Beyond the football, the evenings offer the usual festive atmosphere, with a bar, food service, and the feel of a true village festival in the Valdinievole.
The top four ranked teams at the end of the group stage advance to the final phase.
