When the mask season arrives, the small village of Lajatico, located in the province of Pisa and in the heart of the Tuscan Valdera, dresses up in confetti and streamers for its Carnival. This is not a massive event with dozens of allegorical floats, but a genuine, family-friendly village festival organized by the Municipality of Lajatico to offer adults and children an afternoon of joy and togetherness in the town center.

The parade and the masquerade party

The heart of the day is the float parade that winds through the village streets, accompanied by music, confetti, and the joy of families in costume. The invitation to the entire community is clear: everyone, young and old, should dress up to help paint the village with color. Along the route, there are plenty of moments dedicated to the little ones, with snacks for everyone and children's games that make the festival a perfect outing for families.

Lajatico, the village of the Teatro del Silenzio

The festival takes place in the center of Lajatico, a small municipality in the Pisan hills nestled in the landscape of inland Tuscany, between Volterra and the Val d'Era. The village is known worldwide for being the birthplace of tenor Andrea Bocelli and for the famous Teatro del Silenzio, the natural amphitheater that hosts major concerts among the hills every summer. Far from the spotlight of the summer season, the Carnival represents one of the moments when the community gathers in its center, enlivening the village in the heart of winter.

A festival for the community

More than just a show, the Lajatico Carnival is a moment of collective celebration: an opportunity for local families and visitors to the area to spend a carefree afternoon together. Organized by the School and Social Services Office of the Municipality, the event remains faithful to the popular and welcoming spirit of Tuscan carnival traditions, where the town square and streets return to being a place of meeting and celebration for all.
