The Magician Tric&Trac leads the party on the wild side of Mont Blanc
The La Thuile Carnival, in Valdigne, is an authentic community ritual rather than a tourist attraction: an event that reactivates the square as the heart of the village, restoring La Thuile to the colors and joy of alpine carnival tradition, at the foot of the wildest slope of Mont Blanc.
The absolute protagonist is the Magician Tric&Trac, a figure embodying the playful and mysterious spirit of the festival. He leads the costume parade along a route full of surprises, music, and laughter, entertaining the public with his magic and funny antics. The town center is literally invaded by the colors of the procession, while the small square Giorgio Menel becomes the stage for the magic show.
As in any self-respecting mountain festival, food is an integral part of the ritual at the La Thuile Carnival. Traditional and hearty dishes, designed for the alpine climate, are distributed in the square: tripe, polenta, and the inevitable chiacchiere, typical sweets of the period. A convivial experience that embodies the memory and identity of the village.
The celebrations in La Thuile are not limited to a single day: throughout February, romantic horse-drawn sleigh rides (around Valentine's Day) and activities for children in the snowpark, with the mascot Thuilly, take place. However, the Carnival remains the most cherished moment, capable of uniting the entire community in a day of pure joy in the heart of the Aosta Valley.
On February 17, 2026, La Thuile celebrated its Carnival. The town center was filled with the colors of the costume parade led by the Magician Tric&Trac, amidst music, surprises, and laughter. In Piazzetta Giorgio Menel, the magic show entertained the public, while traditional festival dishes were distributed.
Throughout February, the celebrations continue with horse-drawn sleigh rides and activities for children in the snowpark with the mascot Thuilly.
La Thuile is located in Valdigne, at the end of the valley leading up from Pré-Saint-Didier towards the Colle del Piccolo San Bernardo. It can be reached by car from the A5 motorway (exit Pré-Saint-Didier or Morgex-La Salle) and from the SS26 state road. The festival takes place in the town center and in Piazzetta Giorgio Menel.
The festival is free and open to all, with distribution of traditional foods in the square.
As this is a winter event at high altitude, warm clothing and footwear suitable for snow are recommended.
