About La Lucciolata

La Lucciolata is a night walk that every spring invites young and old to rediscover the magic of fireflies in the countryside of Poggio Torriana, in the province of Rimini. At the foot of the suggestive Sanctuary of the Madonna di Saiano, along a flat path walked in silence, the event transforms the glow of luminous insects into a small natural spectacle, accompanied by words, poetry, and stories from experts. A slow and contemplative experience, designed for families, that invites you to slow down and reconnect with the nature of the Valmarecchia.

La Lucciolata of Poggio Torriana

Every year, when spring evenings become mild, the countryside of Poggio Torriana, in the heart of the Valmarecchia in the province of Rimini, lights up with tiny lights. It is time for La Lucciolata - Walk Among the Fallen Stars on Earth, a night walk that invites young and old to observe the silent flight of fireflies, in an experience that combines nature, emotion, and culture.

The walk takes place at the foot of the Sanctuary of the Madonna di Saiano, one of the most evocative places in the area. Perched on a rocky spur above the Marecchia river, with its ancient tower and a history dating back to the 14th century, the sanctuary provides the ideal backdrop for a timeless evening.

A Slow and Silent Experience

The route winds along a flat path, suitable for everyone, to be strictly followed in silence. Darkness and quiet are an essential part of the experience: only in this way can the fireflies be approached and their glow become the protagonist. Participants are asked to keep their phones on silent mode, to leave only the imprint of their footsteps, and to use, if necessary, a small red-light torch so as not to disturb the insects.

Along the way, nature intertwines with art and knowledge: expert entomologists tell the biology of these luminous insects, while poems and words accompany the walk. For many children, it is the first time they see fireflies live, while for adults it is a return to childhood emotions.

A Collective Event of the Territory

La Lucciolata is organized by the association Gli Amici del Mulino Sapignoli Aps, custodian of the nearby Sapignoli Mill Museum, in collaboration with the associations OaSì - Insieme per le valli Aps, MYoga, and Soundepoz Festival. The initiative is supported by the Municipality of Poggio Torriana through the call for proposals dedicated to culture.

Nature and Tradition in Valmarecchia

The event is part of a network of nature trails connecting Poggio Torriana to the rest of the upper Valmarecchia, in Emilia-Romagna, amidst oak woods, meadows, and river environments. La Lucciolata is much more than a simple walk: it is an invitation to slow down, rediscover the value of silence, and reflect on the relationship between humans and the environment, in one of the greenest and most authentic areas of the Rimini hinterland.
