Running to beat cancer: the charity fun run in Sant'Angelo Romano
La Corsa di Alberto is much more than just a running event: it is how an entire community has chosen to remember Alberto Stazi, an athlete from Sant'Angelo Romano who fought for 22 months against a terminal illness before his passing in 2015. Since the following year, the Gli Amici di Alberto association has turned that memory into a staple of the late June calendar, supported by the Pro Loco and the Municipality of Sant'Angelo Romano. The event's motto says it all: we run to beat cancer.
The format is designed to be truly inclusive. The competitive race, reserved for adult athletes who are registered or compliant with health regulations, covers a 6.4 km route through the village streets; alongside it, the 3.8 km non-competitive walk is open to anyone, including families and children, with on-site registration available. The start takes place from the Belvedere Aldo Nardi, the town's panoramic terrace, in the late afternoonโa time that offers golden light and milder temperatures for participants.
Every registration fee and contribution collected during the day has a specific purpose: purchasing equipment for oncology patients. Year after year, the race has multiplied its efforts and participation, becoming one of the most heartfelt charitable initiatives in the Tiburtino-Cornicolano area. Whether running, walking, or simply cheering along the route, everyone contributes to the same goal: providing hope to those facing illness.
The event is also a perfect opportunity to discover Sant'Angelo Romano, a small town in the Metropolitan City of Rome perched in the Monti Cornicolani, in the heart of the Lazio region. From the Belvedere Aldo Nardi, the view stretches across the Roman countryside to the Lucretili Mountains, while the historic center preserves the Orsini-Cesi Castle and a network of alleys that serves as a natural backdrop for the race. The Lazio region is full of running events, but few manage to combine sport, landscape, and such a concrete charitable cause like this one.
Technical organization is managed with the support of ASD Cat Sport Roma and timing by AZ Podismo, but the soul of the event remains grassroots: volunteers, families, and friends of Alberto bring the square to life from the afternoon, handling last-minute registrations, bib numbers, and encouragement. For those visiting the area in late June, La Corsa di Alberto is the perfect chance to experience an authentic Lazio village at its most generous.
On Saturday, June 27, 2026, Sant'Angelo Romano hosted the eleventh edition of La Corsa di Alberto, the charity run organized by the Gli Amici di Alberto association with the patronage of the Pro Loco and the Municipality. This year's novelty was the renewed 6.4 km competitive route, accompanied by the 3.8 km non-competitive walk designed for families and children.
The meeting point was set in Piazza Belvedere Aldo Nardi, with a late afternoon start: the technical schedule indicated the start at 6:30 PM, with the square already bustling from 6:00 PM for on-site registration and bib collection. Timing for the competitive race, open to adult athletes who are registered or compliant with health regulations, was managed by AZ Podismo, with organizational support from ASD Cat Sport Roma and a registration fee of 10 euros.
As every year, the funds raised are destined for the purchase of equipment useful to patients in oncology departments, in memory of Alberto Stazi and his 22-month battle.
Sant'Angelo Romano is located about 35 km northeast of Rome, in the Monti Cornicolani. By car, it can be reached from the capital via the Via Palombarese, or from the A1 motorway (exits in the northeast Rome area) by following signs for Guidonia Montecelio and Sant'Angelo Romano. Public transport is available via Cotral buses from Rome. The meeting point is in Piazza Belvedere Aldo Nardi, in the town center.
Registration fee for the competitive race: 10 euros; on-site registration is also possible on the day of the event for both the competitive race and the walk. Info: CAT Sport, tel. +39 06 4061453, [email protected]; Antonella +39 348 7792894, Luigi +39 333 6993784.
