About Festa in Verde

Festa in Verde is an event held at the Casali di Villa di Faonte on via delle Vigne Nuove, transforming a corner of Rome's Municipio III into an open-air laboratory dedicated to the environment and urban regeneration. Promoted by Legambiente Lazio in collaboration with the local municipality, it brings together residents, committees, and local associations for children's workshops, debates, local food tastings, wellness activities, and environmental film screenings curated by Cinema in Verde.

A festival born from the neighborhood

Festa in Verde is a recently established Roman event held in the northern part of the capital, between Val Melaina and Vigne Nuove, within the Municipio Roma III district. The heart of the event is the Casali di Villa di Faonte, located at via delle Vigne Nuove 212: a historic rural complex nestled in an archaeological and natural area that the City of Rome is progressively restoring to return it to the inhabitants as a new cultural and social space. The festival is promoted by Legambiente Lazio together with Municipio Roma III and was created specifically to support this reopening process.

Environment and urban regeneration as a common thread

For two days, the theme of the environment becomes the common thread of meetings, debates, and activities that transform the farmhouses into an open-air laboratory. This is not a top-down showcase: the event brings together citizens, neighborhood committees, schools, and local associations around a shared idea of urban regeneration and active participation. Topics include public green spaces, the care of common areas, climate justice, and conscious consumption, coordinated by Legambiente Lazio and its president, Roberto Scacchi.

What to expect in the program

  • Workshops for children and teenagers, with creative and nature-focused paths to discover the park and its trees;
  • Meetings and debates with experts, administrators, and journalists on the environment, climate, and the future of neighborhoods;
  • Environmental cinema curated by Cinema in Verde, with screenings introduced by discussion sessions;
  • Tastings of local products and refreshment points managed by local businesses;
  • Activities dedicated to psychophysical well-being, held outdoors among the greenery of the farmhouses;
  • Moments dedicated to valorizing the area's arboreal heritage, starting with the monumental almond trees.

A heritage returned to the city

Villa di Faonte is an archaeological site of Roman origin that remained inaccessible for a long time: the park has only recently become accessible again, while the restoration of the farmhouses proceeds in stages. Hosting a popular festival here has a strong symbolic value for a quadrant of Rome built in the seventies and often described only through its challenges. Festa in Verde shifts the perspective, showcasing a vibrant associative fabric capable of taking care of green spaces and transforming them into meeting places.

Who is it for?

The event has a distinctly family-friendly and neighborhood-oriented feel: it is suitable for families with children, those looking for free outdoor activities, and anyone interested in ecology, documentary cinema, and social issues. Visitors coming from outside Rome will also find an unusual opportunity to discover a part of the city far from the tourist circuits, in the Lazio region and more precisely in the northern suburbs of the City of Rome, among the parks that accompany the course of the Aniene river.

When it takes place

The event is held at the end of November, with a two-day format that combines afternoon and evening activities. The first documented edition took place on November 28 and 29, 2025; the following edition has not yet been officially announced at the time of writing. It is therefore advisable to check the channels of Legambiente Lazio and Municipio Roma III for updated dates.
