The vintage cycling event of the Canavese region: pre-1987 bicycles amidst castles, lakes, and morainic hills.
La Canavesana d'Epoca is one of the most cherished vintage cycling events in Piedmont: a cycle-touring gathering reserved for bicycles built before 1987, designed for those who want to relive the character and emotions of the races of yesteryear. The event takes place in Albiano d'Ivrea, a small town in the Metropolitan City of Turin, starting from Piazza del Mercato in the heart of the Canavese area.
The event was born in 2011 on the initiative of a group of enthusiasts from Albiano d'Ivrea and is organized by the Team Fuori Onda Bike with the patronage of the Metropolitan City of Turin. Inspired by the famous Tuscan Eroica, La Canavesana has grown edition after edition to become a fixed appointment for vintage cycling enthusiasts and the Canavese territory, paying homage to the champions of local cycling.
The course covers approximately 60 kilometers in the evocative landscape of the Ivrea Morainic Amphitheatre, one of the most important geological formations in Europe. The ride touches some of the area's iconic landmarks:
La Canavesana is not a speed race but a re-enactment: many participants wear wool jerseys, goggles, and period clothing, riding carefully restored bikes. Along the route, refreshment stops are set up with local products, while in the square, an exhibition village and a market-exchange for vintage cycling accessories and clothing come to life. The day concludes with a pasta party and the awards ceremony.
La Canavesana d'Epoca is part of the Ciclostoriche di Lombardia and Le Classiche del Nord circuits, which bring together the main heroic cycling gatherings between Piedmont, Lombardy, and Emilia-Romagna. For the Canavese, it also represents an opportunity for tourism promotion of its landscape and cultural heritage.
The fourteenth edition of La Canavesana d'Epoca was held on Sunday, June 7, 2026, in Albiano d'Ivrea, marking the return of the vintage cycling event to the village where it was born. The start took place from Piazza del Mercato, with registration opening at 7:30 AM and the start at 9:30 AM.
The approximately 60-kilometer route crossed the Ivrea Morainic Amphitheatre, skirting Lake Viverone and the castles of Masino, Roppolo, and Albiano. The day, part of the Le Classiche del Nord circuit, offered refreshment stops along the route, an exhibition village, a vintage accessory market, a pasta party, and awards in the square.
Albiano d'Ivrea can be reached by car via the A5 Turin-Aosta motorway (Albiano d'Ivrea exit) or the Canavese state road; the reference railway station is Ivrea, just a few kilometers away. The start and finish are in Piazza del Mercato.
Registration opens at 7:30 AM, with the start at 9:30 AM. A bicycle built before 1987 is required; period clothing is recommended.
