Festival of Traditional Music from Emilia-Romagna
La Borgata che Danza is the festival of traditional music from Emilia-Romagna that every year, at the end of May, enlivens the Borgata Vecchia (Old Hamlet) of Bellaria-Igea Marina, in the province of Rimini. The historic district of the Municipality, gathered around Via Romea and Via Mar Ionio, becomes a widespread stage for several days where 'liscio', the detached dances of the Po Valley, spontaneous singing, and ethnic dances meet in the streets, courtyards, and small squares.
Born in the early nineties, the event has grown to become a reference point for popular music enthusiasts from all over Romagna and beyond. The artistic direction is entrusted to Gualtiero Gori, a well-known figure in the world of traditional music, who each year builds a program capable of uniting Romagnola roots with the musical cultures of neighboring regions, from Marche to the Bolognese Apennines.
The program alternates concerts by dance orchestras, performances by folk groups, singing moments, and real dance workshops open to the public, where you can learn the steps of traditional dances. There are also cultural meetings and tributes to the oral memory of the territory: the festival aims to be a spectacle, participation, and transmission of an intangible heritage.
Alongside the music, gastronomy plays a central role: the taverns of the so-called Borgosteria – Magnùl, Marascòun, Guiòin, and La Speranza – offer dishes from the Romagnola tradition, from homemade pasta to piadina, accompanying the evenings with good food and local wine.
Admission to La Borgata che Danza is completely free, and the atmosphere is suitable for families and visitors of all ages. Organized by the Fondazione Verdeblu, the festival represents one of the most heartfelt cultural events on the Emilia-Romagna coast, capable of bringing the dimension of the hamlet, of meeting, and of square dancing back to the center.
From May 30 to June 2, 2026, Borgata Vecchia in Bellaria-Igea Marina hosted the 34th edition of La Borgata che Danza, the festival of traditional music from Emilia-Romagna. The program, curated by the artistic direction of Gualtiero Gori, brought dance orchestras, folk groups, and traditional dance workshops to Via Romea and Via Mar Ionio, with segments dedicated to the dances of the Four Provinces (Enerbia) and the traditions of neighboring regions.
The gastronomic heart of the festival, the Borgosteria with its taverns Magnùl, Marascòun, Guiòin, and La Speranza, offered dishes from Romagnola cuisine in the evenings, from approximately 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM. The event, with free admission, was organized by Fondazione Verdeblu.
