La Biennale di Sondrio 2026

The Biennale di Sondrio is the major cultural event that, held every two years, enlivens the capital of Valtellina. The 2026 edition's theme is “Beyond the Limit” and it is configured as a multidisciplinary event uniting visual arts, literature, and theatre, involving over 200 artists and more than 300 works. It is promoted by the Associazione Progetto Alfa OdV and funded by the Lombardy Region as part of the Milan-Cortina 2026 Cultural Olympics.

Venues

The exhibition heart of the Biennale is the Palazzo Sassi de' Lavizzari, home to the Valtellinese Museum of History and Art, alongside the Teatro Sociale of Sondrio for performing arts events. The works — paintings, sculptures, photographs, digital art, and mixed media — explore themes such as identity, memory, spirituality, and social consciousness, in a dialogue between emerging and established artists.

Beyond the Limit

The theme “Beyond the Limit” invites reflection on overcoming boundaries, both physical and inner, in harmony with the Olympic spirit that pervades Lombardy in 2026. The event offers a rich calendar of exhibitions, literary encounters, and theatre performances, spread over several months.

The Biennale concludes with a grand finale at the Teatro Sociale, a culminating event of art, music, and culture.
