The mushroom festival in the Upper Brembana Valley

Fungolandia is the major festival dedicated to mushrooms and their world that every year, in early September, enlivens the Upper Brembana Valley, in the Orobie Alps of the Province of Bergamo. For nine days, eleven municipalities in the valley — including Cassiglio, Averara, Mezzoldo, Valtorta, Piazzatorre, Santa Brigida, Cusio, and Olmo al Brembo — offer a packed calendar of distributed events, organized by the Altobrembo association to promote the territory and its mountain culture.

Cassiglio takes centre stage

Cassiglio, a tiny municipality in the Brembana Valley, also participates in the festival with highly charming events. Among these is the MEMENTO itinerary, a cultural route connecting Cassiglio, Averara, and Santa Brigida through art and spirituality, exploring 18th-century paintings and sacred sites. And the evocative sunset concert on the lake shore, with the Orobie Wind Quintet performing operatic arrangements by the water.

Mushrooms, nature, and culture

The common thread of the festival is the mushroom, the star of guided mycological walks, cooking workshops, exhibitions, and tastings. But Fungolandia is also an opportunity to rediscover the nature, trails, and culture of the Upper Brembana Valley, with a program ranging from family-friendly experiences to more specialized cultural itineraries.

More than a single event, Fungolandia is a distributed festival that connects the small villages of the Bergamo Orobie Alps, highlighting their traditions, products, and landscapes. For Cassiglio and the other municipalities in the valley, it is a key event that, every early September, draws visitors and enthusiasts to discover an authentic corner of the Lombardy mountains.
