Theatre, music and free shows in the districts of Trieste
Fuoricentro is based on a simple yet powerful idea: to bring theatre and shows to where people live, beyond the grand stages of the city centre, into the districts and outskirts of Trieste. It's a programme of free, high-quality shows designed for neighbourhood communities, transforming squares, gardens, and local spaces into meeting points for culture.
The Fuoricentro network covers a wide urban and Karst geography: from the city districts of Roiano, San Giacomo, Barriera Vecchia, Servola, San Giovanni, Campi Elisi, Gretta, Barcola, Melara, Altura and Borgo San Sergio to the Karst villages like Opicina, Prosecco and Basovizza, passing through Valmaura. Each evening becomes an opportunity for families and residents to experience live performances just a stone's throw from home.
Fuoricentro is an integral part of the Trieste Estate programme, the major summer event promoted by the Municipality of Trieste, which enlivens the city for three months with hundreds of events. The local programming is curated by Hangar Teatri, in collaboration with local theatre companies such as Teatro degli Sterpi, and represents the most popular and inclusive face of the Trieste summer.
Fuoricentro offers theatre, music, and family activities tailored for each neighbourhood. It's a cultural choice that enhances the identity of the districts and breaks down geographical and economic barriers to accessing culture, ensuring that performances reach everyone, in every corner of Trieste.
The 2026 edition of Fuoricentro is part of the Trieste Estate programme (June 4 - August 31) with free theatre, music, and family events in the city districts and Karst villages. Curated by Hangar Teatri, the local programming enlivens neighbourhoods like Servola, Valmaura, San Giacomo, Borgo San Sergio, Opicina, and Prosecco, bringing culture close to home.
The detailed schedule of evenings, including show titles, companies, and venues in each district, will be announced by the Municipality of Trieste and Hangar Teatri in the weeks preceding the festival's start, as part of the Trieste Estate 2026 programme.
The programme traditionally involves the districts and villages of:
