About Kemarh

«Kemarh» is the Arbëreshë name for Campomarino. The event «Kemarh tra passato e presente» (Kemarh between past and present) rediscovers, on an August evening in Piazza Vittorio Veneto, the identity and history of the village's Arbëreshë community, descendants of the Albanians who arrived on the Molise coast in the 15th century. Through exhibitions of traditional costumes, Arbëreshë music and songs, and folk dances, the event celebrates one of the four Arbëreshë communities in Molise. It is part of the AESTIVA festival program.

The Arbëreshë name of the village

Kemarh is the Arbëreshë name for Campomarino, in the province of Campobasso. The event «Kemarh tra passato e presente» was created to rediscover and promote the identity of the village's Arbëreshë community, a custodian of centuries-old history.

A community that arrived from Albania in the 15th century

Campomarino is one of the four Arbëreshë centers in Molise, along with Ururi, Portocannone, and Montecilfone. Its community is descended from the Albanians who arrived in Molise in the 15th century, after suffering defeats against the Turkish advance. Since then, language, costumes, and traditions have intertwined with those of the region, giving rise to a unique cultural heritage that still survives today in the old town.

An evening of costumes, music, and dances

The event, held in Piazza Vittorio Veneto in the historic village, features exhibitions of traditional Arbëreshë costumes, music and songs in the Albanian language, and folk dances. An immersive evening that tells the public about Campomarino's roots and celebrates its living memory, as part of the summer festival AESTIVA.

Kemarh — edition 2026

«Kemarh tra passato e presente» returns in August 2026 to Piazza Vittorio Veneto in Campomarino, as part of the AESTIVA festival. A new evening dedicated to the Arbëreshë identity of the village, featuring traditional costumes, Albanian music and songs, and folk dances. Exact date to be confirmed.

In 2026, the event «Kemarh tra passato e presente» will once again bring the rediscovery of the village's Arbëreshë soul to Piazza Vittorio Veneto, in the historic center of Campomarino. As in previous editions, the evening will feature exhibitions of traditional costumes, music and songs in Albanian, and folk dances, celebrating the community's 15th-century roots. The event is part of the AESTIVA festival program; the exact date will be confirmed by the Tourist and Cultural Services Center Institution.
