Open-air jazz club among the vineyards of Mount Etna, in Santa Venerina
Jazz in Vigna is the summer festival that brings world-class jazz to the vineyards of Tenuta San Michele, the winery and agriturismo owned by the Murgo family in Santa Venerina, a small town in the Metropolitan City of Catania nestled on the eastern slopes of Mount Etna. Born as the summer offshoot of the Monk Jazz Club in Catania, the event is organized by the Algos association and has quickly established itself as one of the most sophisticated highlights of the Sicilian musical summer.
The concept is simple yet captivating: transforming a vineyard with a view of the volcano into an open-air jazz club, where listening to music intertwines with tasting Etna wines and enjoying the scents of the countryside. Concerts take place at dusk among the rows of vines, in an intimate setting that highlights both the projects of great soloists and the convivial spirit of the audience.
The artistic direction is led by pianist and trumpeter Dino Rubino, a key figure in the Sicilian jazz scene, who curates a lineup each year that balances international stars, South American projects, and fresh voices in contemporary jazz. Evenings begin with a social gathering dedicated to wine, followed by the main concert, often preceded by aperitif-style sets.
Over the years, Jazz in Vigna has hosted prominent musicians from the Italian and international jazz scenes, fostering a constant dialogue between traditional jazz, Brazilian and Latin American music, and modern experimentation. The festival has grown steadily thanks to the support of the Murgo winery and the national jazz festival circuit, becoming a landmark for enthusiasts who travel from Catania and across eastern Sicily to the slopes of Mount Etna on summer evenings.
Located between Acireale and Zafferana Etnea, Santa Venerina is a hub of the Etna foothills, renowned for its viticulture and production of DOC Etna wines. Choosing Tenuta San Michele as the festival's home inextricably links music and the land: the audience enjoys an experience where jazz becomes a way to discover the agricultural and volcanic landscape of the province of Catania, in one of the most distinctive areas of Sicily.
The seventh edition of Jazz in Vigna takes place at Tenuta San Michele in Santa Venerina with six events, from June 28 to August 1, 2026. The artistic direction is by pianist Dino Rubino, and the festival is organized by the Algos association (Monk Jazz Club of Catania), in collaboration with the Murgo winery.
The program alternates between great international soloists and projects with a strong Mediterranean and South American influence, confirming the festival's mission as a premier showcase for jazz in Sicily.
