Aci Comics & Games: Pop Culture in Acireale

Created to bring a dedicated comic book and geek culture event to the province of Catania, Aci Comics & Games has quickly established itself as one of the most popular events in Eastern Sicily. The festival takes place in the heart of Acireale, within the lush surroundings of Villa Belvedere, the famous panoramic garden overlooking the Ionian coast and Mount Etna.

The event is organized by the Aci Comics & Games APS association, led by president and artistic director Giuseppe Mantegna, and is part of the Italian comic convention circuit. In just a few years, it has grown to attract thousands of visitors, welcoming comic artists, illustrators, concept artists, streamers, YouTubers, voice actors, collectors, cosplayers, and make-up artists.

What to Expect

Aci Comics & Games is a multidisciplinary festival that spreads its offerings across various themed areas set up throughout Villa Belvedere. Sections featured in recent editions include:

• Multiverso — the central area dedicated to special guests and shows;
• Comics & Exhibitions — comic books, authors, and displays;
• Games & RPG Area — board games and role-playing games;
• Gaming & Esports — gaming stations and competitive tournaments;
• Japan Section — manga, anime, and Japanese culture.

The program also includes tournaments, cosplay contests, shows, panels, and meet & greet sessions with guests, alongside numerous publisher, artist, and merchandise stands.

A Dual Identity: September and Carnival

In addition to the main late-summer event, Aci Comics & Games offers a Carnival Edition linked to the historic Acireale Carnival, featuring costume parades and cosplay contests along the city circuit and in Piazza Duomo. This local connection makes the festival a deeply rooted event in the cultural life of the Municipality of Acireale and the entire Catania metropolitan area.
