Jazz a Chiaia: great music in a neo-Gothic church

Jazz a Chiaia is one of the most appreciated musical events in Naples, the capital of the Campania region. The concert takes place in the Anglican Church on Via San Pasquale a Chiaia, a neo-Gothic building tucked away among the palazzos of the Chiaia district, just a short walk from the seafront and Piazza dei Martiri. It is an unusual venue for jazz: a cozy nave, natural acoustics, and no distance between the audience and the musicians.

A project by Nomea

The event is conceived and produced by Nomea, a Naples-based organization also active in Spain and Albania, specializing in musical experiences hosted in sites of historical and cultural interest. Nomea received the Premio Nativity in The World during the 30th Epiphany Concert, a recognition for promoting musical talent. The same organization hosts other regular series in the Anglican Church for the people of Naples, such as Colonne Sonore a Chiaia and Christmas Jazz.

The repertoire

The program alternates between international jazz standards and original reinterpretations of Italian and Neapolitan classics. This is not a philological concert: the arrangements rewrite well-known melodies and bring them into an intimate dimension, where voice and piano dialogue without a rhythm section. It is a formula that works particularly well in a small space, where every dynamic nuance reaches the listener clearly.

When it takes place

Jazz a Chiaia returns several times throughout the year and is often tied to symbolic dates on the calendar: the 2026 edition took place on Saturday, February 14th, Valentine's Day, while in 2025 the appointment with the same duo fell on Saturday, March 22nd. The schedule remains the same: box office opens at 5:45 PM and the concert starts at 6:30 PM, an early evening slot that leaves the rest of the day free.

The Chiaia district

Chiaia is one of the most elegant neighborhoods in Naples: historic shops, 19th-century palazzos, the Villa Comunale, and the Via Caracciolo seafront. Attending the concert also means walking through this part of the city, between Via dei Mille and Piazza Amedeo. Those arriving from outside the region can easily combine the music with a stroll along the seafront or a stop at one of the many trattorias in the neighborhood, where Campanian cuisine remains at home.

Who it is for

The formula appeals as much to jazz enthusiasts as it does to those approaching the genre for the first time: the repertoire is recognizable, the duration is short, and admission is free for children up to five years old. Booking is mandatory, however, as seats are limited and events sell out quickly.
