Emerging music on the stage of the Roman Theatre in Terracina
The J Music Festival, also known as the Jupiter Music Festival, is the annual summer event that transforms Terracina—a gem of the Pontine coast in the province of Latina—into a stage dedicated to emerging music. The highlight is the final evening of the Premio Jupiter, a three-day event that concludes on the stage of the Roman Theatre with live performances by selected finalists before a panel of music industry professionals.
The festival was born as an evolution of the historic Summer Day Music Fest, a contest for emerging artists created by Lab Music Factory, the "Music Workshop" of Terracina. For years, the event enlivened Piazza Municipio with evenings that drew thousands of spectators: the ninth edition took place in the summer of 2024, and the 2025 edition was held on August 2nd, still in the heart of the city. In 2026, the project rebranded as the J Music Festival, linking itself to the Premio Jupiter and finding a prestigious new home: the Roman Theatre.
Artistic director Gianni Testa, a key figure in Italian music production, has chosen a selection process that departs from traditional casting: for months, the live and recording activities of local artists are observed to identify the most promising talents ready for the contemporary music market. The finalists perform their original songs live, accompanied by resident musicians, before a jury of songwriters, vocal coaches, and copyright experts. The project also involves record labels such as Altafonte Sony, Joseba Label, and Joseba Publishing, confirming the professional nature of the competition.
Since 2026, the final has been held in the Roman Theatre of Terracina, an archaeological jewel in the city's upper historic center. Singing on a stage built two thousand years ago, just steps from the Capitolium and the Appian Way, offers both the audience and the artists a rare and evocative experience, where today's music dialogues with the heritage of Roman Terracina.
The festival is organized by Lab Music Factory in close collaboration with the Fondazione Città di Terracina, the Municipality of Terracina (Department of Culture, Tourism, and Major Events), and the Serghei Rachmaninov Musical Association. In past editions, the event has also distinguished itself for its focus on inclusion and accessibility, with initiatives dedicated to people with disabilities. Free admission confirms the popular spirit of an event that has become a staple of the musical summer in the Lazio region.
The 2026 edition represented a turning point for the event: the evolution of the historic Summer Day Music Fest into the J Music Festival brought the final of the Premio Jupiter, on Sunday, July 12 at 9:00 PM, to the ancient stage of the Roman Theatre of Terracina, transformed for the occasion into the home of local emerging music.
Under the artistic direction of Gianni Testa, twelve finalists performed live accompanied by resident musicians before a jury composed of Bettah Ferrari, Luca Napolitano, Giovanni Segreti Bruno, and Claudia Barcellona. The evening was opened by Pamela D'Amico, artist and Rai presenter, who presented her short film "Angustia," available on RaiPlay and Rai Cinema Channel.
The event, with free admission by mandatory reservation, was organized by Lab Music Factory with the Fondazione Città di Terracina, the Municipality of Terracina, and the Serghei Rachmaninov Musical Association, with the involvement of labels such as Altafonte Sony, Joseba Label, and Joseba Publishing.
