About Svicolando

Every year at the end of July, the historic centre of Priverno transforms into a grand open-air stage. Svicolando – Sounds, Flavours and Charms brings live concerts, street theatre, exhibitions, guided tours, DJ sets and tastings of local products from the Latina province to the town's alleys, squares and stairways. Established in 2016 to reconnect residents with the ancient village, the festival is now one of the most anticipated summer events in southern Lazio, with free admission to all events.

A village turned into a stage

Svicolando – Sounds, Flavours and Charms is the summer festival of the Municipality of Priverno, a town in the province of Latina recognised as a City of Art in Lazio. For three consecutive evenings at the end of July, the medieval historic centre comes alive: the alleys, stairways and squares become natural backdrops for concerts, theatrical performances, art installations and tables laden with local flavours. The name itself plays on the Italian verb «svicolare» (to wander through alleys) and the village's own narrow streets.

The birth of the festival

The initiative began in 2016 from an idea by the municipal administration with a clear goal: to regenerate the relationship between citizens and the historic centre, restoring life and activity to an ancient urban fabric at risk of depopulation. The project succeeded: year after year, residents began personally decorating alleys and courtyards with original themes and projects, supported by local associations. Today, Svicolando is a participatory event where the community is not just an audience, but a co-protagonist.

Music, theatre and street art

The musical programme is the backbone of the event, spanning diverse genres: singer-songwriter, folk-rock, reggae, world music, urban and conscious rap. Over the years, prominent names from the Italian scene have graced the stage in Piazza Giovanni XXIII. Alongside the main concerts, street bands, street artists, puppet shows, poetry readings and DJ sets accompany the public late into the night.

Flavours of southern Lazio

  • Tastings of typical products from the Pontine and Lepini territories
  • Panoramic aperitifs in the most picturesque spots of the village
  • Kitchens and food stalls managed by local associations
  • Wines and extra virgin olive oil from the surrounding hills

Heritage and guided tours

Svicolando is also an opportunity to discover Priverno's heritage. The Archaeological Museum remains open for evening guided tours, and the festival route touches the most characteristic corners of the ancient core. A few kilometres away lies the Fossanova Abbey, a jewel of Cistercian architecture in Italy and an ideal destination to complete your visit. A tourist train connects the various points of the event, making the experience accessible even to families with small children and people with limited mobility.

A free festival for everyone

All Svicolando events are free of charge: a deliberate choice by the Municipality of Priverno, which views the event as a tool for cultural and tourist promotion of the village rather than a commercial operation. Activities for children — workshops, entertainment, games — occupy an important part of the programme, as do the exhibitions and artistic projects that each edition introduces as a novelty.

When to go

The festival traditionally takes place on the last weekend of July, from Friday to Sunday, with activities starting around 7:00 PM and main concerts in the late evening. The summer temperatures of southern Lazio make the evening format particularly pleasant: you can stroll through the alleys in the cool air, eat outdoors and listen to music under the stars.

Svicolando — edition 2026

The 11th edition of Svicolando brings the historic centre of Priverno to life from 24 to 26 July 2026. Three evenings featuring concerts by Roberto Billi, Inna Cantina Sound, Piotta and Andrea Rivera, accompanied by street theatre, exhibitions, guided tours of the Archaeological Museum and tastings. The big news is «Fuori le Mura» (Outside the Walls), featuring giant sand sculptures by Montserrat Cuesta and Sergi Ramirez. All events are free.

Svicolando 2026: the 11th edition

From 24 to 26 July 2026, the historic centre of Priverno hosts the eleventh edition of Svicolando – Sounds, Flavours and Charms. The inauguration is marked by a tourist train departing from Piazzale Metabo at 6:00 PM on Friday, 24 July; from 7:00 PM, the village comes alive with shows, exhibitions and food stalls along Via Pergola, Via San Giorgio and Via Regina Margherita, while Piazza Giovanni XXIII hosts the main concerts.

The novelty: «Fuori le Mura»

The 2026 edition ventures outside the perimeter of the historic centre for the first time with the «Forme d'Autore» project, hosted at the Sibelco plant. On Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 July, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, you can admire giant sand sculptures inspired by mythology, created by international artists Montserrat Cuesta and Sergi Ramirez. The route is completed by workshops and activities for children and 4x4 mine tours: an unusual immersion into contemporary art and industrial archaeology.

A widespread festival

As every year, the residents and associations of Priverno decorate alleys and courtyards with themed projects. The Archaeological Museum offers evening guided tours starting at 7:00 PM, while street bands, DJ sets, puppet shows and poetry readings accompany the public along the entire route.
